New Project

Haven't been here in a while but thought I'd give a little update. Kim got her permit last week but hasn't ridden the bike yet. It has some carburetor issues and once it is up to operating temp the clutch slips a little bit when leaving a stop sign or under heavy throttle in the higher gears. I thought it had a leaking intake valve so the motor is torn down again. In the process of taking it apart the $38 head gasket that I just replaced separated so there's some more $$ thrown at it but all in the name of fun I guess. The best part is, the valves don't appear to be leaking.
I have to tear the carbs apart and clean them again and see if that helps, it is incredibly lean on the low end but clears up above 4K. If I don't run with the choke on it has no power leaving a stop sign but once it breaks 4K it launches hard.
Here's 2 videos and a few pics of right after it was reassembled, one start with electric and the other was a seated kick start.
Since the pics were taken we found a set of the oem high bars which were required since the throttle cables were too long with the flat bars. An advrider.com member swapped us straight across for the bars. The front brakes and right side mirror have also been reinstalled. What a chore of cleaning out the master cylinder and the frozen caliper. The old brake fluid dried and became like rock candy! Had to replace the caliper piston as the old one was very corroded and pitted.
And since it is torn down we decided to try some rattle can paint on the tank. We couldn't find "faded red" in the paint department and we need to touch up some rust spots on it so we are going to give it a go and cover the whole thing. Kim picked out the color, its a dark silver metallic Rustoleum auto paint.
Anywho that's what we've been up to.
Side note: had I kept the KLX instead of trading it toward the WeeStrom Kim could have been out practicing Oh well hindsight is 20-20 and all that.

Could that lack of power off idle be an electrical problem? I wouldn't be surprised if the wiring harness was as whipped as the the rest of the bike.

The problem clears-up when he puts the choke on. Most likely somthing with the carb. Hey, I should have been a rocket scientist!

I think the proper term is "rocket surgeon" I asked Kim if she wanted to store it at my parents' unheated garage or use the laundry room, you can see how that went.
And yes it was a joint project
