OK, a few more questions:
I just bought a 2009 KLX250S with 1700 miles on it. Bike looks new. The previous owner added a jetkit for the carb and and Muzzy exhaust. From looking at the bike I'm assuming the jetkit un-detuned or retuned the carb. Other than turning me into one of those folks with loud pipes, why should I keep the Muzzy. The previous owner gave me the OMI exhaust that he had removed.

By the way, having a blast on the bike. Quick, narrow, stops on a dime, can do a wheele (Not something this 68yo does often ;-) ) Great for getting around San Francisco and I can take it on the back roads close to the City.

Again, Thanks for you time.

That pipe besides being a little loud is adding to the pep of that bike. You could pull it and go back to stock, you would probably have to jet it near stock again but you'd loose some go as they are anemic in that form. It's your call as your mpg would probably go up some but it wouldn't wheelie at all anymore. Most of the people here make those changes and still lust for the 351 big bore kit as these are great little bikes and with simple changes can be even better.

Smile Welcome to the club

I am 50 and was riding a "Y2KR1100RT" I still do ,but I bought the Street Fighter model KLX for local stuff and commuting. I simply love it. Its light, agile and I can't cram five bucks of gas in it.

You will enjoy the bike.

I went with stock pipe and did my own mod to it. It lets out more exhaust but is not loud. I will post pics. If you want yours done the same I can.

Enjoy the bike!

David

My RT has 123,000 miles on it.

Good for you! At 68 I'll probably be sitting on the porch watching the bikes ride past. Leave the exhaust on it.

i know i cant relate to the age, and im not hatin on your age. im 17...

if you went back to the stock exhaust i think you would be dissapointed in the power you loose. i have the FMF powercore 4 on mine and it really opened it up, i know the noise may be a concern but for power, i would stay where you are.

I would gladly give up power for the noise.

This is what I did. No dyno results, just seat of the pants. It seems to work.

Compare this to the original 15mm outlet.

I more than doubled the ares of the outlet. It was too loud, so I added this pipe. I tried different lengths, this one is aobut as quiet as stock.

I don't want no stinkin loud pipe!

David

To each his own.

Just try the stock pipe. You are old enough to decide for your self it its OK.

Some equate noise with horse power Look at all those Big V twins you can blow by with your quiet BMW.

Your bike will run better re jetted, its a joke from the factory. Give it some fuel and you could put a KDX snorkel in it for only a few bucks.

KDX snorkel on the left, stock one on the right. It makes a difference. Seems to add more midrange. Available from Kawasaki for about thirty bucks.

Its under the seat.
