new old questions
Hi everyone,
I have a stock 2006 klx250s with a 13 tooth front I think a 45 or 47 tooth rear. I have been a looker for years and now have some questions on differant theads I have read.
1. what is the best snorkel upgrade and what is the part number too order
2. I heard of drilling out the first exaust baffle with a 1/2 inch bit. how well does it work and is that from the tip or the inside closer to the engine?
3. If I were to upgrade my exaust, what is the best one and do I need to upgrade from the head back or just get a slip on?
4. I read of Bill Blue the big bore kit sounds good but what does it cost? How hard is it to do?
When I ride off road there is alot of sand. The front and rear sprocket change really helped but is not anough to keep my on top of the woops in sandy areas. If anyone has some pointers I wuold apreciate them.
Thanks for the info I will not drill out my exaust. I am 5' 7" at 145 lbs I will try rideing without the snorkle but I am worried about water crossings. How hard is it to install the fmf and should I get a magabomb what about the heat shield? How about useing the sock pipe and fmf exhaust

1. Dont buy a snorkel, just take it out.... i bought the kdx snorkel and its sitting on a shelf.
2. didnt make any difference to me
3. all depends how deep your pockets are. Id highly reccomend a full system, the fmf looks and works good. i have the big gun full system
4. bill blue http://bandbcyclerestorations.com/page_4.html
if you weight more than 150lbs, get springs. i just did for mine and its a world of difference. handles much better.

A snorkel from a KDX is the replacement. With none, the intake is loud.
Drilling the first baffle does nothing but screw up your spark arrester. It will not improve performance. I tried it.

Don't bother with snorkel, remove air lid completely and jet accordingly.
You will not get water in, if it gets that high you have other problems. I have crossed deep water with no probs.
I have FMF Q4 exhaust with header, works well, any will work well, comes down to cost and noise.
Get the 351 kit, it's cheap, easy install, and works very well.
And a tip: If you're ever in the air flying, do not land directly on top of a boulder, or you will have a lot of work to do.

Heck...I think you should rejet even the bone stock KLX, as the jetting is just stupid lean. The minimum that one should do to the KLX...IMO...is to remove the airbox lid, install a full aftermarket exhaust, and rejet with a Dynojet kit. This really changes the bone stock KLX. After that as you get more familiar with the bike and where you ride the bike, you'll know whether you need/want the big bore kit or other mods.

As far as 351 install, it depends on your ability. If you've never turned a wrench, probably not a good idea. If you know basic mechanics and can follow directions, it's very easy.
You'd be removing the head, cylinder, and old piston, and replacing with new piston, new cylinder, and strapping the head back on.
If you know what you're doing it should take a few hours.
As for Muzzy - sure, get whatever you can afford, they're all the same as far as gains, they just sound different. When I did exhaust on my 250 I put a 128 main jet in it (I'm at sea level). A 126 jet would have worked too as the 128 was still a tad rich. Get the dynojet or FMF jet kit (both the same) for the KLX300.
Good luck.
