Default New new new!!! Please help

Soooo at 33 years old I have decided to purchase not only my first Kawasaki but my first bike in general. I recently purchased a 2006 KLX250 with 1200 miles on it. I'm learning so much about it including that it has an issue with running fuel when the petcock is on. It immediately stalls. On reserve it runs perfectly!

1. Go to a gasoline filling station.
2. Fill it with gas.

So pull the fuel line from valve to carb. Set valve to main. If no fuel, then issue is in valve or tank.
Pull tank, drain it, remove, inspect the filter screen in the tank. Could also be clogged fuel line or valve issue itself.

Congratulations! I have an earily similar experience. Bought my 2006 two years ago with almost the exact same mileage as yours. Fortunately, it's run nearly perfectly since the day I brought it home.

I agree either the latest suggestion - pull the line between the carb and the tank, turn fuel "on", and see if it flows. That'll narrow it down significantly. I suspect you've got some crud plugging up the petcock.

I bought an 07 with about the same mileage and same problem. Previous owner had replaced the fuel lines from the tank to petcock. The on line had a bend in it and kinked closed when everything was bolted up. Tank off everything flowed correctly. I replaced the line with OEM that was pre-bent, problem solved.

Always use a clean stick to check the level of gas.

@durielk is right - and he might be thinking your previous owner(s) used dirty sticks - clogging whon-na the screen thingys on the pet **** doohicky inside the tank..

Don't use a match to see down in your tank, use two.
