New, and looking for Performance
I am new to this forum, and I am wondering what I can do to my 2006 KLX250 to increase power. I have only replaced the brush guards, and removed the license plate holder. I would like to try to keep my bike quite, for bear hunting, but loud would be fine too. Should I take the bike to the dealer for modifications, or can I do it myself. I am very experienced in restoring muscle cars, but I have no experience with motorcycle modifications. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Hereis a pictureof my bike, and modifications I have done.Do you think my license plate modification is street legal? (don't let my landlord know I am working on my motorcycle inside my apartment.)

Welcome Gomerpile (love the name) From the picture it looks like you have had the bike for a while. The back tire looks like it has 1000 miles on it. While most of the guys here do their own mods including me, I did decide to let the shop install the Muzzy and jet the bike at the same time so that I knew it was done right. I have had the valves checked twice by the dealer, again a lot of guys here have done their own, but I don't feel that comfortable with tearing into the engine, besides I have 4 more years on the warranty so they can take care of things for a while. The easiest mod for power in my opinion is the 13 tooth on the front and the 45 on the back. The gear reduction makes trail riding so much easier. Again welcome and have fun.

My odomoter reads 2167, and I had a lot of fun in those miles since I had purchased it in august... Anyway, I have heard the gearing change eliminates your final gear. I like to go fast on forest service roads, and I may get frustrated without being able to go 60+MPH

Eliminates the final gear? On the contrary. The gear changes actually lets you use 6th gear as if it was actually a gear. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

Ya, if a bike won't reach max RPM's when in top gear you won't loose top speed by re-gearing unless you over do it. I am going to change mine and I am going to check top speed with a GPS stock vs what I end up doing. I'll post soon. Sprockets on the way.

Well, I know you could use the speedo for comparison but they are so inaccurate. I had mine reading 92 MPH but the GPS was reading only 80! And the GPS has a max speed on it so I can keep my eyes on the road and it leaves human error out of the equation.

Oh, I had my plate on my 04 zx10 mounted like yours and got pulled over twice for it. Both times just got a warning but the officers said it was not visible. I had a light on it but I guess it was not enough.

Can they give you a ticket if it is not visable. Thinkof a muddy truck. The reason I had chose this position was to intentionaly cause mud over the plate. Police will definately harass me for this positioning, but can they ticket me? Can they ticket you for having mud over your plate?
