New KLX250S
Greetings!
Picked up my new 2009 KLX250S yesterday afternoon.
I have always wanted a dual purpose machine and started shopping around last week. Being a novice rider I just wanted a good trail bike that was legal to ride on the roads to get to the trails.
Came this close to buying a Yamaha WR250R from another shop but stopped by to see what kawasaki had to offer in this class before I made the decision to buy.
Dealer had two KLX's left, a green and a red one.
One look at the red version and I knew it was the one.
There was just this look about it.
Zero down- 80 bucks a month. What a deal!
Took her out today and put about 50 miles on it just getting lost on these Arkansas county backroads.
It's really tough keeping it under 4000 rpm's for the break-in period.
Not a lot of power in this rpm range but enough to get comfortable learning the bike and getting the feel of it.
I assume once broken that this bike makes good power in the upper rpm range?
Took some pics to share with y'all.
Cheers!
At the shop-unserviced and looking for a home.
Home sweet home!

Thanks for the welcome 51!
I did get it splashed up a bit today not to mention the squirrel that cut me off and almost bought the farm.
Also had to wait for seven deer to decide to get out of the road as we just stared at each other for about 30 seconds while they looked my over to see if I had my bow on board. Lucky for them...
All in all not a bad first day of ownership and riding.

Congrats, mate.
Bit cheaper than the Yammy too.
You'll find lots of advice on here regarding the 4000rpm break-in.
In a nutshell - vary the revs and gear changes without thrashing it for long periods, give it a couple of early filter/oil changes and check the air filter regularly.
Thats what I did and mine hasnt missed a beat after 3000 km's.
Good luck - you'll have a lot of fun!

Congrat's on the new ride! Power is obviously better in the upper revs, but nothing to write home about in stock form. A new pipe, proper jetting and opening the intake helps it a lot. I'd put the stock power at slightly better than a KLR or Super Sherpa, but noticeably weaker than the WR you where looking at...big price difference from the WR though and the KLX seat is lower.
That said, there are lots of way to improve the power. All the way from your basic unplug to a 351cc large bore kit. Let's see if you can resist the 'mod continuum.' I think you will be 'assimilated.'

Thanks for the welcome and the advice all! I really appreciate it.
This bike was exactly $1000 less than the WR. $4999 plus sales tax.
I figured a grand would go a long way in fixing up the bike plus the seat height was a factor as I can just flat foot the bike.
I did have a hard time starting it this morning and after searching here I can see that this is a common thing. I just figured the issue was because the bike was new and tight.
While starting it I found out that with the choke open and just barely cracking the throttle it would start right up. Outside temp was about 45 degrees.
If I have any more issues cold staring I'll try out the tips I found here.
Cheers!

Congrats! Welcome! Showroom bikes always look so mesmerizing.. So clean and virgin
It's weird - everyone always mentions tough starts sometimes.. In the years I've had this bike, never ever once did it take more than 2 seconds of cranking to fire up.. I dunno..
