New KLX owner here with questions
I just picked up a new 09 red KLX here locally and had a few questions on it. The first mods I want to do are really just cosmetic. I want to get rid of the Shrek ear turn signals, because apparently I don't need them here in TX. Is there a cap to plug the fron signal points or does it really matter? Also what is the best low profile rear brake light combo minus signals?
As for power I do plan on doing the big bore kit in the future as i know it is lacking alot! I just came off of a KTM 250SX so the starts or lack there of really tripped me out! For now I was wondering if I really need a full exhaust system with header or if a FMF or 2 Bros slip on and airbox mods would give me a noticeable boost? I did read through the FAQ's but I think I'm more confused now than when I started.
(Yes I picked it up Tues and it's already been muddied!!)

I just got mine on the weekend and am wondering the same. I'm thinking a slip-on is more than enough to see the gains w/minimal other mods. (The free stuff.). I'm even wondering how the bike would do w/a slip-on and everything else, including jetting, bone stock. It's not going to be a powerhouse, to say the least. If I could free it up a bit, give it some sound, lose some weight, add some looks, and keep the gas mileage up, and the expenditures down, that'd be cool. I have several other faster bikes...Anyone?

If you're used to a faster/more powerful bike, nothing short of big bore will satisfy you. Trust me on that. You'll need to do the exhaust and jetting anyway, but it's not going to be enough.
Save cash, get a used exhaust, new jet kit, and big bore kit. And the motion pro throttle helps too

Tail light
Here's a pic of the tail light mod using the DRC edge 2 set up Part#D45-18-714

Also have the Two Bros slip on which I feel was money well spent.

I have this one on mine. It is a universal item, so it doesn't directly bolt on, it'll need some cutting and drilling. It keeps the plate higher and further back than stock so the tire won't eat it.

Also when you do mangle or loose your plate, don't sweat it too much. Replacements for lost ones are only 6 bucks in Tejas.

Do you have a pic of that light mounted CM? I really like the slim profile of the DRC but I also like the idea of the plate being out of the way. Also where did you stick your inspection sticker? ACOLE did that slip on give you a noticeable boost in power? Thanks again for the help guys

Welcome to the site. A word of warning, required or not I would never take my stock turns off......well except the first time when I did. The stock turns are 5 times as bright as anything out there, and trust me we need all the help we can get being spotted.

Ain't it funny how people think? I'm aware the bike will never satisfy me, power-wise. I bought it knowing that. However, I come to a different conclusion than you: Why even try? Keep it efficient, cheap, and easy. If it'd run well and a bit stronger w/just a can, I think I'd go that way. Or, at least, try it. You can do everything to it and it's still going to be a weak bike. That's cool. The other advantages are many. 09KLX says his ran great w/just a slip-on for his first 4K miles. I just wonder...

I don't expect it to be anything that it's not power wise, but it just feels like it is being choked back right now and not getting all it can. As for the turn signals and riding, the only time this bike will really be on the road is on the rare occassion I drive it to base or down to the local trails. The most being 6 miles one way on an open HWY. I know what you mean about visibility though, but the way the stick out really creeps me out for some reason. It's like bug eyes stating at you!!!
