Just fired up my new (to me) KLX 2006 approx. 1000 miles. After a short ride and shutting it down, I noticed that fuel was leaking out of the overflow tube...is this normal? Does it happen every time you ride? My KLR does not do this...is it unique to the KLX.

Welcome to the forum!!! never had that problem on mine and don't recall much being said about it. did you try a search for it here on the forum? if it's been an issue it'll be in here somewhere.

The tank overflow will only do this if the tank is absolutely full, the breather holes are the ones that look like someone left the screws out of under the fuel cap. Or possibly the fuel expanding with heat.
And +1, I always switch fuel tap to off position on every bike I own.
Safe is better than not, besides it always ensures you have gas to be able to ride out of where ever you are.
If the float valve jams open your tank can empty without you noticing.

Welcome to the forums, and of course the greatest bike ever invented.[8D] I have never had the gas leak out on any bike, unless I tipped it over or drained the bowl.

Likewise............the only time its ever happened to me was when I sliped on an oil patch inside an undercover park just as I had warmed up the bike I put my boot into the oil and lost my footing............LOL I can laugh about it now but at the time it was quite painful as the bike fell on me and my leg hit the pipe making a big burn hole in my jeans......not to mention a MONSTER burn mark on my leg [:@]. I looked down to see a fuel patch and later that week ran out of fuel at only 209kms and wondered why. Then it hit me.....sometimes I wonder what planet I'm on. Other then that I have never had a problem with fuel leaks.
Cheers!
