Default New KLX in AK

Hey everyone,I just bought my 2006 KLX last week and used it this week for the BRC course. The snowisn't quitebroken up here yet, but hopefully next weekend I'll be able toget her out on road a bit. I'm gonna be taking the "ride it like you plan to" approach to break-in, seems to be the general concensus here.

I was originally looking at some bigger bikes, but this one was the one I finally fell for, I love the size. I've been reading all the posts about DIY Mods for starters, so keep em coming.

Thanks!

Temperature climbed over 30 degrees for the first time this year today up here in Fairbanks, actually topped out at 36!! I had the bike out breifly yesterday, and then for about 3 hours today. I love it! There's still some patches of snow and ice here and there, but most of the main roads are clearing up. I got stopped at the front gate trying to get my bike on post at Ft. Wainwright, because they haven't "given the ok" yet for motorcycles, but still had a blast around town.

I've got almost 70 miles on it not, getting the revs up and down through all thre gears. Once it's broken in, I'm gonna upgrade the exhaust. I guess I'm technically a "noob" on this subject, but the 2 Brother's people seem to have me convinced that's the direction I should go. As for other accessories, like new grips and the protectors in front of them, where's a good place to look? I really don't like the stock ones at all.

Later this summer, I'll be moving back to PA, and I'm gonna want to tow my bike. Anyone have any good leads for trailers? I drive an 06 Wrangler Unlimited, if that helps.

Hopefully some pics will come soon!!

Welcome to the forum.

https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_21950/tm.htm might be an option for getting your bike to PA. I don't have one, but looks like it would work well.

As far as exhaust goes, I'm not jumping on the 2 Bros band wagon yet. No doubt they look cool and probably perform well, but for me, too expensive for just a slip on. My full stainless system was the same price as their slip on. I had one on my old YZFR1, loved it,and will probably go that route on my ZX10R, but they are closer in price and performance to the other exhaust makers for the 10. (Disclaimer: These are only the views of this poster, and do not necessarily represent the views of of this station) Any exhaust that you put on will be 10 times better than stock.

Welcome to the forum.. What kind of riding do you think you'll mostly be doing? more dirt or more street?

The reason I ask is that if your going to be doing a fair amount of dirt riding, different DOT approved tires from the stock 603's will probably help alot!!

The Donlop 606's are great for overall dirt riding and the KendaK760 Trakmaster II's seem to work very well in both dirt and sand/mud/softer stuff...

Congrats on the new bike and happy riding!!!

Thanks for the advice. I like those hitch carriers, so it's good to actually see one with the bike on it.

You said you found a complete exhaust system for your bike, where can I check it out?
