As far as I know the Xenon lights are the only easy direct replacment for a H4. A H1 is a mono-filiment bulb which will not fit and even if it did would not be legal because it cannot do high and low beams (being single filiment of course)

H1

H4

HID bulbs are coming but still very expensive ATM and needs a ballast to make them work

Cheers

There are ways for a more brilliant headlight.

I have been using the Phillips V+50 bulb for sometime now in my KLR and Concours. They use the same wattage as stock, so there are no power issues to deal with. However, they do provide a much brighter light.

For more information, just click here.

Now, do you think I would tell you about it if it wouldn't fit?

The KLX uses the same headlight - H4 as the KLR.

If you have a look at the links I posted you can clearly see the shape of the H4 and H1 bulbs. All H4 bulbs fit H4 sockets. All headlights that require a H4 use the same shape H4 bulb. So yes anything labeled H4 will fit. The only thing then to be aware of is the power requirement, stock H4 headlights use a 55/60w bulb so anything rated thus or below will be fine. Some headlight housings allow higher rated bulbs eg: 60/100w however you have to be careful of heat buildup as the higher rated bulbs throw off lots more heat and can damage the housing.

cheers

p.s. The HID bulbs use less power but throw off a much brighter light, these are the way of the future.
