Hard starting after setting for awhile is one problem that seems to be cured by the "deej method" but hard starting after just a few minutes is a completely different deal.
It is entirely possible that you are jetted a little rich and that can be the cause of the "hot" hard starting. On MX bikes there is a hot start lever that actually leans the bike out for starting. It is basically the opposite of the choke ****, if I understand it correctly. If it happens again try opening the throttle all the way and treat is like it is flooded. If it starts, then I would try experimenting with the mixture screw and see what happens. jmo

 

I have to agree with Gary, if the bike was running and then you go to start it again, that's not an indication of gas that has changed its properties. Even though your bike is new and probably has low miles, I have heard that if the valves get out of whack it will make the bike hard to start. I can ride my bike and shut it off and 30-40 minutes later it will still start right up without the choke. Oh and Mike, you can't steal my thunder, because I am only collecting data and re-posting ideas to help everyone out. So you go right ahead and plagiarize the stuff I already plagiarized.[8D][8D][8D] Anyway I'm running the dead on 40 and 132 jets, with no air box lid, not sure of the slide or all that stuff as I didn't do the work or know how anyway. I also never did any of the smog stuff as I was worried I would plug off the wrong thing. Also you said that you let it idle for a while and then tried to restart it? Explain it further. I can choke the bike get it running and then shut off the choke too soon and it will die. I usually leave the choke on for about 1 minute, then push it back in, and the bike is fine. Just remember the bike is not technically warmed up fully for about 10 minutes. That's usually when things get quieter. Could you perhaps have been dealing with a cold bike? If you get the bike running again, let it get good and warm, and even ride it for a while and then shut it off and try and start it. I have to tell everyone here that after my bike is warmed up, it starts so easy that I bet the motor doesn't even turn one revolution and its running., kind of like an old 72 Chevy we had growing up, you could turn the key until the spring could be felt and before you could even let go of the key it was running. You could also pull out the key after it was running. OK where did that come from?

 

OK guys thanks for the info...I just went out and drained the float bowl, turned on the petcock, pulled out the choke and it started right up. Weird. I let it run for a few minutes and then turned the petcock off and let it run till it quit. Probably won't be trying to start it for another few days because the weather here is cold and rainy. When we do get some nice weather I'll see how it all sorts out as far as the starting and thejetting goes.Thanks again for the advice.
