Default New Guy

Have been lurking for a few weeks now gathering info on making mod's to my 2 week old '07. Yesterday I put on the new Muzzy with the quiet core and the spark arrestor (still loud, but love it), K&N, backfire screen mod, high flow snorkel, removed the smog stuff and installed the 125 main jet, needle (3rd groove) drilled the slide and set the idle mixture screw at two and a half. Running the stock pilot jet. Put on the Kouba links (1.25'), but took them right back off. Yes they lowered the bike, but I don't want to shorten up the kickstand at this point in time. Without modifying the kickstand, it is actually harder for me to get off of the bike. I should have researched that decision a little better before making the purchase, but they are a quality piece and are beautifully machined. Maybe later.
Didn't get much of a ride in after the mods to verify the jetting, but it sure does accelerate a lot better. Weather forced me back home (Baltimore, Md. area.)
Have a question for you guys, did a searchbut didn't find anything. Has anyone replaced all of the engine side cover screws with allen headed bolts yet, or does some company produce a kit for our bikes? If someone has done this, how many of each length etc. Thanks.

Hi jb7,
Welcome to the forum. I have not replaced side cover screws. These are hex head so I don't see a big advantage. I did switch out the phillips head throttle linkage and float bowl screws with allen heads and highly recommend it for ease of jetting changes.

Welcome,

I installed the 1.125" Kouba links too and noticed that same issue with mount/dismount. However, I had all ready planned to shorten the kickstand. Once the kickstand is shortened, things are easier.

I shortened the kickstand myself. That is, I made the cuts, ground off the old weld and set it up for a welder to finish it up. He only charged me a few bucks. I found some spray paint that matched pretty well and repainted the area. Be sure to keep the same approximate angles.

Also, I installed the bar risers that you can be had from Rocky Mountain ATV, so that front end can be lowered too.

Hey, you guys & gal are a friendly bunch...got another question for you all. I am now experiencing the dreaded hard starting syndrome after modifying my bike. First noticed it after I had completed the work, had let it idle for a while and then shut it down and tried to restart it a few minutes later. It took longer to start than when it was stock. Today, after sitting for 2 days, it won't start at all. Looks like I will have to drain the carb etc. like I have been reading in the "hard starting" posts. Has anyone come up with a cure for this problem. Would a richer (#40) pilot jet help?

At the risk of stealing Deej's thunder, shutting off the gas and letting the engine run itself dry seems to be the best method to ensure reliable starts 2 days / 2 weeks / 2 months later.

Don't know why, that's just the way it is.

As far as the #40 pilot, that might be a good thing to do anyway, since you might be a little on the lean side with a #125 main and the needle clip in slot 3. (I don't think you're at a high altitude, but maybe ... ). You should set your jets based on how it runs, though, and just use Deej's method to deal with the starting issues.

Anyway, there's my two cents. (Or $0.01739 USD )
