Looks like Yamaha are really upping the ante in the dual-sport market. A new XT250 replaces the ancient XT225 and all new fuel injected, aluminum frame, WR250X and WR250R models.

Wow, they sure did... Come on Honda, I'm ashamed to call myself a Honda fan when they have such a ****-poor offering for the DS market.
I wonder how that WR250R compares with a bone stock KLX250S (power-wise).

My god, look at all that junk hanging off the rear fender[:'(]And the front fender[:'(]Butthe cosmetics can be taken care of easily. This is just a guess, but I would bet the power is down a fair amount from the off-road WR, but hopefully I'm wrong. Why couldn't they just have taken the existing WR250 & 450 andfinish the street legal lighting and sell it as street and trail like they do in other countries.
Oh well, at least they're trying.
And it looks like a step in the right direction for the dual sport crowd.
Fuel Injection woooo no more jetting lol

Looks like its alittle taller, slight bit more weight, same hp, fuel injection thanks but no thanks, the price tag could buy lots of mods for us, nice bike I'd like to see one in person.
It good to see some more bikes in this catagory maybe Kawaski will improve our little machine.

This new WR250R should be a bit more off road capable then our KLX's.
Looking at the specs though it shouldn't be much better and I can certainly live without the extra 2" of seat height.
Now the engine on the other hand is probably going to make the Kawi's seam a little anemic.
It has all the right things, higher compression, shorter stroke, larger bore which generally equals a bit free-er revving mill provided Yamaha didn't castrate the little beauty with a lame cam grind and excessively-lean electronic fuel mapping.
I would expect the dry weight to be down considering the aluminum frame as well not 14lbs up.
It incorporates a few nice odds and ends though like the LED lights and LCD clocks and larger rear tire.
I’ll be looking at one of these come January for sure.

Omg, I need dyno runs, NOW!
This nearly-new KLX might have to go! Unless of course, this is a more competition oriented DS that'll be dying on the road, in which case... Nvm.

The more and more I look at it, the more and more it seems more like KLX competition rather than TE competition.
I mean, look at the styling. It's got pillion pegs for cripes sake! Definetly more commuter oriented as opposed to being a barely legal enduro-race bike.
Guess i'll just have to wait for the dyno runs. If it turns out to pump around the 20 rage in terms of horsepower, i'll stick with my KLX, and use the money i've saved to get it up to speed![Smile](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Imagine having to rejet that FI system too. Until it becomes as easy as plugging in a factory included USB cable into a laptop and just toying with numbers in a text file, I think i'll stick with Carbeuration.
DAMMIT! I NEEEEEEEEEEEEED A RIDE REVIEW!
