NEW 2007 KL250 UNUSUAL ENGINE NOISE
Hi all. New to the forum. Just picked up a new 2007 KLX250 a week ago. It had 11 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 109 miles. It's pretty much impossible to do the recommended break in (under 4000 rpm for 600 miles). So, anyhow, I keep it under 6000 rpm an no more than half throttle. Since day one, I hear what sounds like piston slap or wrist pin noise up to 5000rpm. It gets louder with load. Same hot or cold. This is my first KLX250.I traded in a 2005 Ninja 250 on it (which was silent except for theidling cam chain tic). I changed the oil at 75 miles (no way was I going to wait till 600 miles for the first change). The oil did have some pixie dust in it. I have since taken it back in to the dealer, and a tech drove it and said these engines are very noisy and the exhaust is very restrictive, so you'll hear every sound the engine makes. To me this is a bunch of BS. I'd like to know some of your thoughts and if any of you have this similar noise. Fixed or just living with it?
I took this video tonight just for the sound. The sound is great though because you can even hear the crickets in the background. This isn't just exhaust pulse noise in the exhaust. It sounds much heavier than that.

Who knows why it had 11 miles on it, and if someone test droveit and beat the crap out of it.
This is going to be interesting...........
And yes, I bought the 4 year warranty! I'm in Ocala,FL. Anyone near me?

That sounds like all the KLX's I have ever heard mine sounds like that and so does my buddies we have done all the mods and Big Gun I have 2200 miles on mine and it sounds just like the day I bought it....At an Idle in neutral pull the clutch in and you will hear some clutch chatter go away....under hard acelleration it makes plenty of noise..... And with a Utah Skid plate you think its falling apart.... But the bike runs great and they all sound this way as do most new singles I hear.... Just enjoy my friend

You should hear mine! I have the 2 Bros exhaust, 13 tooth, and the Utah skid plate. Bear is right, this thing is so buzzy and noisy now, I may start reversing mods! You bike actually sounds really quiet in my opinion...

I don't hear anything out of the ordinary. If you really want to hear a noisy engine, ask Nobrakes to run a sound video of his KTM. They are the noisiest engines I have ever heard. Sounds real similar to a tin can with rocks in it.
No offense intended Brian, cause I know that they run great! Just noisy.

I have to agree with the others here in that my bike doesn't sound any different, so I assume it's normal. One thing is forcertain, my engine definitely lets me know if I'm lugging it in too high a gear or I do something dumb like try to take off from a standstill in second. I think that's the sound you're describing, kind of a knocking that sounds like it's coming from the bottom end?
