I was seriously looking at buying a 09KLX250s for riding 15 miles to work and playing around on the weekends. I can get one for $5000 out the door, but...... I also found a 05 Honda CRF250X for $3100 here are the stats.

"This 250X is set up for a 200lb rider. Has a SICASS kit making it street legal and the bike is currently plated. Don't get a ticket in the trail system, with ORV sticker and a license plate, you can go anywhere. Pro Taper Fat Bars, Trail Tech Computer, Oil changes every other ride. Bike has been maintained very well.

the guy seams to take care of his stuff. In your opinions what is the best bike for the money.

i'd go with the honda BUT you have to be prepared for all the extra maintanance. vavles,pistons and oil/filter changes. the klx will need the same just not as frequently.

No, Hondas run forever - but... Its a different class of machine. Its made for horsepower, at the expense of reliability.
The KLX motor is designed more towards the other end of the spectrum, very reliable but not that high performance.

 

So what your saying is that its not gonna get anywhere near 65mpg like the klx is going to. Huh thats another thought, but I can buy alot of gas for 2000 also.

 

I've never thought of it in terms of fuel economy before...
Hmmm, Im not sure there, because the Honda engine actually produces more horsepower for 250cc displacement...
Maybe it actually gets you further on the same amount of fuel because its producing more energy?

 

if your looking for economy then go with the klx. that $2000 your going to save will be spent on a lot more than gas. all the road miles your planning on can eventually hurt the 250x motor. the 250x is not a street bike. the klx is.

You are comparing apples and oranges.....get the honda, if you want a performance lil bike ....... it will take years for the price difference of the bikes and the cost of gas to break even.

BUT, one should not buy a bike to just save gas alone....just sayin.

 

I'll take lower power over higher maintenance.
