You're in my situation last year this time. I had an '06 KLX with all your mods, a lot less miles and sold it on ebay for $4200. I thought I'd get something better when I sold it. Well, I bought a DRZSM. It was a fun bike but not enough dirt oriented for me and I didn't feel like sinking another grand into it for dirt wheels/tires plus it needed a 6th gear. I had left all the mods on my KLX when I sold and now to make a long story short, I sold the DRZSM last fall and now have an '09 KLX250S and wished I had never sold that '06 KLX. Not that I don't love my new red '09, just that I am in need of those mods I sold with the bike.
The new WR is slightly awkward looking with it's longish rear subframe down the side and upswept muffler. Sure it's more powerful but you gotta rev it like crazy to get there.
It comes with no tach and it's headlight is from the '80's like your KLX's is. If you want a new bike, take the $4000 and then buy a new '09 KLX but keep your BigGun exhaust as that bolts right on. The WR does nothing the new '09 KLX can't do. Actually, the KLX is imo, more bike for the money. If I had wanted a new WR, I'd have one in my garage right now. I didn't care for their styling around the tank/shroud area, the muffler, and the goofy rear subframe that runs what seems like from the top to the bottom of the bike in the rear. It's lines just don't mesh with me like the new KLX's do. Good luck on your decision.

Decided thanks guy's, just needed more imput than my wife saying to (keep the KLX you just got it how you wanted!) I do love the Klx and it's paid for just new $4,000 was a good price but so is saving that $200 a month! I'm staying green.

Buy the WR if you want to work on it every week end
Alot of work maintaining one of those things
They are endurorace bikes and KLX's aregutless but reliable. The KLX engie will out live the WR 10 times over.

If you need more power and reliability buy a larger pot bike 400 or 650

Different bikes with different applications.

You chose well
Keep the KLX

nah, you're thinking of the WR250F, not the R model. The R model is the new dual-sport and it's engine is anything but high-maintenance. It's valve adjustment intervals are like 20,000 miles and it makes more power than the KLX. It's styling is what kept me away from it.

The WR250R motor is one cylinder from the R1 sportbike, not the high strung mx motor in the WR250F or YZ250F.

Thats exactly my issue too, i know its silly to buy or not buy a bike based on styling, but i just think the WR and blue color is fugly. Nothing against the mechanics of the bike, but i was in a tossup between the KLX and WR and 2 grand (Canadian) of savings for a bike that will perform similar but that I like sooo much better was a no brainer. I had to opportunity to get new 07 KLX for 1500 cheaper then i got my 09, but I just liked the 09 that much more.

Personal choice, but assuming you like the WR styling, you really cant go wrong (FUEL INJECTION!!!!!!)
