Default Need help assessing a fixer upper...

I've got vintage bike fever after purchasing my KLX 250. This looks like a decent buy however I'm not sure what the potential problems could be. Any advice would be helpful from guys that are mechanically inclined which I'm not.....I'm mainly looking for what the $$ cost could be if there are a lot of issues.

Ke was a nice bike in there day I had one 25years ago that had been heavly modded with KX parts, **** that litttle thing could go, it would pull untill it ran out of numbers on the rev counter and show 155km/h on the speedo.
They have a low seat hight compared to the klx.

Wow!...dejavu. I had a '74 model of that bike. It was a good little Jap DS model for back then, but the suspension will absolutely suck for anything today...anything. That is a very tough motor. It was a rotary valve design engine and produced very decent power for bikes back then. There's not much to go wrong with that bike, but it is what it is...a 70's dual purpose that does nothing well but will do a bit of everything. I would find the suspension unbearable, but that's after decades of being spoiled by something better. As to the money, hard to tell. If it's in pristine condition in person...maybe...maybe not. If it's going to be a beater bike for a buddy to ride on a dirt outing while you ride something better...maybe so. In person, if you can see that the chain and sprockets are in good condition and that the engine doesn't have any loud piston slap...maybe so. Pull the air filter and look down the intake tract. If you see a bunch of dust and dirt in there...pass. The carb is actually mounted down on the side of the engine case. I really liked Kawasaki rotory valve engines. Oh...and grabbed the front forks and swingarm and try to shake and wiggle them. If you detect play...pass.
