My project 351 SM with pix and dyno #'s
Should have called it "Project MP" for money pit. I should see a doctor about my problem, just can't seem to stop! Oh well life is short, so they say...
First I would like to thank Bill Blue from http://bandbcyclerestorations.com/and John from http://www.cycleproracing.com/ they both are outstanding people to work with!!!
John assemble the top of the motor, check all clearances with the new cams and adjusted the valves. He revalved my front shocks, replaced the oil and added Race Tech springs. He also switched out my stock tires with the SM setup. Still working on that though the back tire hits the chain slightly, just need to offset it more. Not his fault at all!
I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER THING FROM EAST COAST WHEELS, EVEN IF IT WAS FREE!!! IT TOOK OVER A YEAR FOR ME TO GET MY RIMS AND THEY STILL DON'T FIT RIGHT! OK enough back to the thread.
The bike has Bill's 351 kit, piston is ceramic coated top and sides by http://www.swaintech.com/store.asp?pid=8537&catid=19694
I went with the 101# grind from http://www.webcamshafts.com/index_bl...le_search.html Also used there stock KLX size S.S. intake and exhaust valves.
The head has been ported and polished by John with new valves and valve job.
It has Bill's 34mm carb setup 40 pilot jet and 142.5 main jet with open airbox and UNI filter. The free mods too.
Exhaust is a FMF Powerbomb with a 2 Brothers silencer both ceramic coated by http://www.performancecoatings.com/index2.html The gold silencer parts were reanodized lime green.
I run this coolant with the thermostat removed http://www.evanscooling.com/main27.htm This stuff is pricey but works great, better than Engine Ice by far! I used it in my BB 750 v-twin quad in the past and it never overheated. The better it flows the better it works. My bike fan never came on yet.
It has Braking front and back rotors with pads. The gearing is Sidewinder TI 15/39 and it has Avon Distanzia 120 up front and 140 in the back.
My azz loves the seat by http://www.renazco.com/default.cfm Vinyl grey top with black sides and lime green stitching. No more monkey butt, YEAH!!!!
There are plenty other custom stuff too. I have good pix of everything just have to get them straightened out.
I broke the bike in on the dyno using his method http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
After the breakin we ran 3 dyno runs up to 9000 rpm. I dropped the oil and ran 3 more, after the oil change it made a 1/2hp gain and was still making more at the last run which was the best. The jetting is on but probably could gain some more with a 140 amin jet. I kepted it alittle rich to be safe.
I have dyno video too, but having trouble getting it off my SD card, something about I/O device? Any help would be great, then you can see the blue flames shoot out the exhaust, so cool!
I got it home and took it for the first ride. All I can say is WOW what a difference from stock! Handeling and power are awesome. With the high gearing cruising in 6th about about 5000rpm, you open it up and hold on, it just keeps pulling. I can pass cars now like they stand still! I need to get my GPS hooked up to it because the speedo reads faster with the smaller 17in. tire up front now. In 3rd gear on the dyno at 9000rpm it hits 60mph?
Twisty corners are such a blast! I feel more safe with improved front forks and brakes. You can push it more with control.
The bike is about 90% done. Still have to put on the hand guards, SM front fender, LED turn signals, remove the black baggie(can't believe its still there!), put on some more Zeta bling that is getting anodized lime green, etc.
Here are some pixs and dyno sheets. The first dyno sheet is the first 3 runs combined, the next is the last three runs and the last is the best run by itself.
I guess I am totally motarded now?
AND LOVE IT!!!!

hehe, I had that piston in my hand one time and looked at it, it just looks like grey paint, but it sure seems to work. Good job. I wish I had the seat also. It appears the port job helps.
For comparo, my bike with stock pipe and carb, free mods, 40 pilot, 132.5 main, DJ needle full lean, airbox lid on and KDX snorkle makes 18.7 Ft Lbs torque.
Don't you just love that flat torque curve. Power all the time.

Nicely done ...
I am on the same path at the moment. Although no engine improvements yet, although the 351 Big Bore is looking mighty good.
It's a 09 AUS Model
I can relate to needing to see a doctor, Modding these things is like
an addiction ....
Thus far, just done the
Got a trailtech vapor speedo to go on to negate the change in front wheel circumference. Just got find some time to mount it.
Just using a GPS for now.
Although thinking about it. there must be away to change the 09 Electronic speedo, probably a different resistor or something on the main computer board, since they sell a SM version in the states.

I can't imagine it isn't a simple program thing.
Tremor may be able to help you.

Suzuki GSXR and Bandits have electronic speedo and they use a thing call a healer to correct the errors.
Have a look at this http://www.speedohealer.com/eng/faq.htm

I posted this in another thread.
17 is 81% of 21.
So 106 x .81 = 86
So an indicated 106mph is actually indicating 86mph.
Then subtract say another 5% for speedo error.
82mph.
Does that sound right?
I haven't worried about actual rolling circumferences or differences in tyre profiles, just rim diameter.
