Ems, if you drill and tap the holes bigger you may want to consider using a fine thread tap and bolt, it will keep more threads in contact with metal and a larger surface area for blue loctite which you should be using. Sometimes when you go to abigger diameter thread you don't have enough length of thread left for proper holding power, the fine thread helps make up for this. Was also wondering if the muzzys were all running a quiet core in them and what kind of inserts were big guns running, this might also help people that are concerned with noise levels when comparing the two.

Honestly i dont think it makes that big of difference.... i rode marty's bike with the slip on hmf and the pumper carb, its no big issue, i mean this isnt a race bike or anything im sure a new header will flow a little bit better but not a huge difference... i have seen it first hand.... i wish i would have waited for the hmf....
This is true. Dyno results bear out the fact that you get over a 2hp gain just by adding the HMF to the stock pipe. I would like to see an HMF set-up properly with air lid off backfire screen removed and jetting to match.

Another interesting fact is that the KLX300 and 250 have the same diameter of head pipe. They are just different lengths.

Of course, you could go with my complete titanium system and get a 4hp increase. [sm=badbadbad.gif][sm=badbadbad.gif][sm=badbadbad.gif][sm=badbadbad.gif]NAW, he didn't just say that!!!

Hey! Good idea... i was thinking about using coarse threads... but i never really thaught about it that way... thanks...

Thats what it comes down to, i mean if you want like a half horse power gain then yea get the whole system, but if you took a bike and had stock header with hmf and rode it, then put on a whole big gun or muzzy, i would bet money that you could not feel any difference, the big thing is just getting rid of that cat converter in the muffler. Like i said we arnt drag racing these bikes or anything so things like that i dont feel would make a huge difference. If you want to get every half, quarter, or whole horsepower out of it then yea get the whole system. Just like exhausts on trucks, mandrel bent pipe to regular bent exhaust pipe, unless your racing, your not gonna notice a difference in a cat back exhaust.... Anyway, tremor, your exhaust is too purdy to get all muddy like i do.... lol

You are missing a few very fine Japanese brands. My BEET Japan Nassert N-Motard is the best system I've laid eyes on so far. My dealer took over the Kawi dealership here in Japan from his father and saidthis system is the best hehasseen made for this bike in his lifetime, which is a pretty strong statement.
Now, if your're talking about 'bang for the buck' that's a completely different story, but if you wantsuperior materials, workmanship, looks, sound, light weight and power in apackage that is tailor madefor this bike, look no further.

I feel the part about 'looks' is the only subjective statement I've made. The rest is just straight facts.

As long as we are giving opions on exhausts here's mine:

1. Almost anything Japanese built ie Sato, Arata, Moriwaki in no order.
2. Leo Vince, Akrapovic, Staintune, Yoshimura (ya I know they are Japanese made) in no order.
3. FMF, Pro Circuit, in no order.
4.Muzzy, Big Gun, Two Bros, HMF, Supertrapp, et all in no order.
5.The bottom: DG, Cobra & the likes (Actually I'd just leave it stock than go here).

This is not a ratings list but just how I would approach getting an exhaust for any of my bikes, start at the top & get the first avaible.Based on mixtureof personal experience, my own web research/owners reports& pictures. I have had Sato and a number of FMF,Pro Circuit,& Supertrapp on my bikes/quads. Tell me I'm full of it or whateve I dont care.

So true. HoweverI think it's only a matter of time untilIgive it a proper baptism in the mud. I'll probably pick-up some dirt rims, tires and sprocket sometime this summer. Lookingat thething,I was wondering if it was legalfor trails, but my dealer pointed at a green colored'JMCA'plate on the silencer and said that makes it legal. He evengave mea'JMCA' card to carry in my wallet...weird!

I've now read a couple of comments about the ceramic coating on the big gun header pipe. Has anyone contacted big gun about this? Or is thata waste of time? The reason that I ask is that there should be some sort of a warranty on the ceramic coating.

Mine is still in perfect shape, but I took my complete exhaust off of my 600R to be ceramic coated and the place that does it told me that they would gaurantee the ceramic finish for 2 years ..... no questions asked. Now, in fairness my 600R pipe is going to be a semigloss black finish, but that shouldn't matter, the process is the same. The ceramic coating is a similar process to powder coating but is suppose to endure more extreme conditions.

If it isn't lasting on the big gun header pipes then I would guess that it is a result of improper prep of the pipe. So naturally I'm thinking that these are not isolated instances and that they know that there are some pipes out there that have a problem.

I had a ceramic coated pipe and muffler on an Oddesey and the thing looked good after three years of operation. Severalguys I know have ceramic coated pipes on their Pilots and none have finish problems. However, I've read the big gun customer service horror stories. So maybe it's not worth the effort, but on the other hand it might be worth a phone call.

just my .02

I'll second that.

Tremor:can you post pics of some more Japanese made exhaust for our bikes? Many of the brands I mentioned don't make pipes for the KLX that I know of, I was just saying theymake great exhausts in general.Since you arein Japan & have the D-Tracker over theremaybe there aresomewe have not seen & I know I would love to see them. If Moriwaki made a D-Tracker exhaust I may need achange of boxers.

& Iwas awareStaintune is Aussie made, I was refering to Yoshimura in that post.
