Default My opinion on exhausts....

While i was on the Trip in FL first 1 screw rattled loose out of my endcap on the big gun, so i just kept the other 2 tight, then another one came out. So me and chris went to the hardware store and found the closest screws that would work. I put 3 screws back in the end cap, then somehow.... dont ask me how..... the spark arrestor came out.... then the endcap rattled because the spark arrestor wasnt in it.... and i kinda forced the screws in.... And after seeing the HMF pipe and the muzzy.... id like the HMF more..... If someone wanted to buy my big gun system cheap id sell it, and buy the HMF. Now that i have personal experience with all 3 exhausts, HMF, big gun, and muzzy. I really liked the sound of the HMF and look of it. Plus, Chris (cwgoff) has a muzzy, and Owen (fingermullet) has a muzzy, and owens was a good bit louder, because of the 300cc jug installed. Keith, klxstiffler, wasnt happy with his big gun either... his ceramic coating was starting to come off... as is mine. He also lost a few bolts, but not the same ones i did. The one guy that had the HMF, duane, He had his bike runnin real rich when he showed up, it was popping and it sounded like a gun, it was really loud. The cool part was that it was shooting flames out like a foot out the end of the muffler, with spark arrestor in..... it was sweet, but bad, so he rejetted it. But thats my experience with the 3 main systems from FL.... I know im gonna get torched for that but... o well.

One thing that surprised me was how similar the Big Gun and Muzzy sound. With all of the bickering on this site about which is better and blah, blah, blah the two pipes sounded very, very similar. The exception was on Owen's bike with the Muzzy & 300cc big bore upgrade. Like Eric said, it was considerably louder than my Muzzy with stock displacement. While I am not willing to trade my Muzzy, I agree with Eric that the HMF is one fine looking & sounding pipe. It has a little different tone than the Muzzy or BG.A little deeper and more mellow, but just as loud.

Well, there was really only one person that was saying every other pipe except his favorite was crap, was poorly built, etc. To the point of pissing off lots of folks.

I wonder if it could be due to the packing needing changed? I've got the 331cc on mine and I honestly can't say that I've noticed an increase in loudness after each big bore upgrade.

Personally, the pipe I think looks the best is Tremor38's. It's hard to tell from one recording but it sounds pretty sweet too. That will be my next pipe if I ever have to replace my Muzzy and if it is available here in the U.S.

Brian i bet if you put your bike next to a 250cc w/ muzzy you would notice it... it was just a small change so it was hard to notice... but i bet its different...

I thaught my big gun was not as loud as chris's muzzy, but i just repacked mine too... so that might have something to do with it.

I appreciate these threads because Im looking to purchase an exhaust now and was uncertain which one to get. Does the HMF offer a full replacement with head pipe and everything?

I know. I am still pissed off that we lost Marty over that.

I thought about the packing difference as well, but actually it would go the other way. I have about 3300 miles on my bike and I think Owen only has about 1500. Now that I think of it, though, most of his miles are hittin' it pretty hard in the sand pit, while a good chunk ofmy miles are commuting. I guess this difference in usage could account for quicker packing degradation in Owen's bike.

Either way, his pipe sounded a good bit louder in a good way. If mine will eventually sound like that as the packing deteriorates, then I will be happy. I don't necessarily consider louder as better, but the tone of his was just stronger. It was pretty sweet.

Honestly i dont think it makes that big of difference.... i rode marty's bike with the slip on hmf and the pumper carb, its no big issue, i mean this isnt a race bike or anything im sure a new header will flow a little bit better but not a huge difference... i have seen it first hand.... i wish i would have waited for the hmf....

As long as we are giving opions on exhausts here's mine:

1. Almost anything Japanese built ie Sato, Arata, Moriwaki in no order.
2. Leo Vince, Akrapovic, Staintune, Yoshimura (ya I know they are Japanese made) in no order.
3. FMF, Pro Circuit, in no order.
4.Muzzy, Big Gun, Two Bros, HMF, Supertrapp, et all in no order.
5.The bottom: DG, Cobra & the likes (Actually I'd just leave it stock than go here).

This is not a ratings list but just how I would approach getting an exhaust for any of my bikes, start at the top & get the first avaible.Based on mixtureof personal experience, my own web research/owners reports& pictures. I have had Sato and a number of FMF,Pro Circuit,& Supertrapp on my bikes/quads. Tell me I'm full of it or whateve I dont care.
