My New KLR Six-Fiddy

RE: My New KLR Six-Fiddy
Thanks for the compliments everyone. I do like the bike very much. I sure wish I could have kept the KLX, though. They are really two completely different bikes for completely different kinds of riding. I am lucky to be able to have one bike right now, though. There is no way that I can justify even a mild case of MBD.
Hopefully I will one day be like Torq and be able hang with the true offroad bikes with my "pig in the woods".
Chris

Very nice looking bike, Chris! I remember when you and I joined this site around the same time, and we both mentioned how big the KLR felt in the showroom. I think the KLR will make a better commute bike for you and still able to hit the backroads and trails to do some exploring.
Too bad that you couldn't swing keeping both bikes. I like my KLX for the mountain goat that it is and my XR650R for ripping down the dirt roads and taking longer rides.
Keep in touch with us inmates here in the loony bin!

TC - I definitely will keep going on this forum. Too much good non-model-specific info being traded to ignore it.
As for the size of the 650, I have been amazed at how normal sized it feels to me. I think my new bike has almost the same seat height as my old bike. I need to firm up the rear shock a bit on the 650, so after that it will definitely ride a little higher, but I think it will still be okay for me.
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris, nice KLR, I like the silver paint the best. I haven't been around here in a long time, good to see everyone is keeping this forum going, and I'm glad you stuck with Team Green!
Are you heading down to FL in the Fall? Maybe this year, I'll have a little more time off work and more time for Dragon's Breath.

Well, since jsac has started a Pine Barrens picture/video thread, I figure it is only a matter of time before I have to see pics of DivoDave having fun on my old bike. In order to make myself feel better, I thought I might throw out a few pics of my new ride.
I got a super deal on a used 2007 bike. You folks may remember that Larry (Snal) got an awesome deal on a 2005 KLR650 a couple of months ago. Well, the dude he bought his bike from had an '07 that he was letting go at a great deal as well. The deal was not quite as sweet as what Larry got on his '05, but I am still very happy with it.
Here she is. Mostly stock at this point. The only mods are a Supertrapp exhaust (very nice sound), IMS pegs and magnetic drainplug. Since getting the bike (10 days ago), I have done the initial carb mods (needle jet adjustment & air/fuel mix screw) and tuned the exhaust a little bit (a neat feature of the Supertrapp).
There aren't as many things that need to be done up front with a KLR, but with 20 years of aftermarket following, there are farkles galore that quickly transition from "wants" to "needs". I will try to maintain some self control, but it's going to be hard.
Anyway, here she is in all her glory.

Thanks all for the kind words on the bike. I am kinda partial to it.
Bear, you are right on the tank. I have had the bike now for 3 weeks and I am still working on the first tank. The tank holds 6.1 gallons, so at about 55 mpg, I should get well over 300 miles to a tank.
I just finished the transplant of my Pelican 1400 case from my KLX to the KLR. It looks sort of small on the back. I see a 1500 in my future. One more items on the farkle list.
