Default My $300 a year motorcycle

Say what you will about the KLX, but no one can ever say it's an expensive bike to own. I just got my registration and insurance renewal for the upcoming year.

$105 full coverage with roadside assistance from Geico
$ 99 California registration
$ 62 Fuel (rode less than a thousand miles this year)
$266 for the year and if you add in a Mobil 1 oil change I'm still under $300.

One of the best purchases ever and a hoot to ride.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I'm 110 insurance GEICO a year. 40 plates and whatever fuel. I think I put 2000 miles on it this year. I put quite a few miles on in the woods and that tanks any mileage I get. Then whatever I have out in oil and filter for the year.

Next year will be a bit more costly. New tires are needed, and I may need a battery it was getting weak. Plus I may put new chain and sprockets on.

I agree its a great little bike for what it is and cheap to up keep. I had thoughts of selling it till I thought its paid for and not costing me a dime other than plates and and insurance in Jan.

On insurance I have the 650, 250, and the 550 for like $150/yr with Progressive. I cover the liabilities, uninsured/underinsured, and add fire/theft/vandalism to complete what I want. I figure if I crash it I'll pay for it, but if it gets burned/damaged/stolen I want coverage.

Totally agree! The klx is a cheap to own and fun bike. It's my do all bike. Love it.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I'm always so jealous of you americans with your cheap bike insurance..

Where I live, not only is it legally mandatory to ride, it's about 100 - 200 a month depending on the displacement and risk category for basic coverage. comprehensive coverage (fire, theft, vandalism, etc) is usually about the same on top of the base cost.

My friends 929 Fireblade was $1500 for 3 months.

I'm pretty happy with only paying 300 for 3 months in comparison.

Learn something new every day. The klx250s are cheap because of what they are. I know people with sport bikes paying stupid amounts for bare min coverage.

Barely $10 a month for me. With comp and collision and bug pay outs for medical bills on myself. On the other hand I'm paying 180 a month for my auto insurance on 3 full coverage vehicles.

I also live in BC, Canada, and my KLX was (no longer insured now that I have the Husqvarna TE250) about $38/month for insurance. No theft coverage, no collision coverage, just $2million liability. Here, the minimum is $200,000 liability insurance. My 2015 Ninja 650 is $130/month (liability and Collision), and my 1997 Goldwing is $100/month (liability only).
