It sounds like (P.A.I.N. [:@]) the HMF slip-on is the way to go if noise is an issue. People are saying it's not much louder than stock, but I don't think there's objective information to compare performance improvements between HMF and Muzzy/Big Gun. There will always be a trade-off between sound and performance, though.
Eric is right on target with his quiet core question. If you don't have one, that might be the path of least resistance to a quieter exhaust.
FWIW - I have a Big Gun with the Vortex Insert, and I find the sound level is acceptable. I tried it once without the Vortex Insert and found it to be obnoxiously loud. This is all completely subjective, but I am concerned about noise levels, if that helps you put this into perspective.

my big gun is straight through baby!!!!! obnoxiously loud, and always at high rpm's!!!! lol i just love the sound....
yea maybe you could make a few bucks... sell the muzzy and get the HMF....

How many hours of use on your Muzzy? Mine got much quieter after 10-20 hours of use as the packing cover melted and let the packing expand.

Well look who it is....hey Scat.
My Muzzy has a lot of hours on it, and its getting so loud that the other day I forgot the Blackberry at work and rode back to get it, and left the bike running outside the building and someone said is that a helicopter? So I think the packing need to be re-done. Didn't someone here have a repacking thread with pics? I wonder if there are instructions somewhere on the web with pics, I think I would like to re-pack mine. If its once a year, I guess that's not too bad. Earlier a few months ago I wrote that I was never going to repack, I guess that was my stubbornness kicking in, but now I guess I will have to eat my words. Mmmmmm my foot is starting to taste good.
Anyone know a cure for foot to mouth disease? I think its getting worse.[&:]
