Not being a long time birt biker, I'm kinda ignorant. When I update my exhaust, I want : #1 quiet as possible, #2 no packing to replace, #3 a rigid mount( not an adjustable strap), and FS approved.

Throw some name brands out so I can do more research.

I would like to hear some opinions on this too. Seems like everyone is Inhaling the Muzzy pipes off the shelves for these bikes
, and I would too, but I like to keep the bike quiet, some parks around here have a db range that you cannot exceed, and I think that the Muzzy would exceed it if your rpms are high, where the bike likes it.

It seems like the Big Gun system is "Unobtanium" at the moment. Some report that Big Gun has actually stopped making the system that fits our bikes. Who knows for sure? In any case, Big Guns have to be re-packed from time to time. It's no big deal. 15 min job tops.

The only company that I know of that makes a non-repacking can that "might" be made to fit our bikes is Laser. The Laser Pro Duro is very popular among the KLR650 crowd and it might be possible to make one of those mate up with a FSW header pipe and have a nice system.

I have the Muzzy coming shortly. I had a Big Gun on my KLR. I'll report on how the Muzzy compares to that as soon as I can.

According to the Muzzy website, the pipe should pass the park service test with the quiet core and spark arrester in place.

Sheesh who can afford $500.00 for a new exhaust? I guess I'll run the stock until it falls off. Being always on a tight budget I will have to look for the free mods. Hey speaking of free, I was talking to a 4 stroke racer that rides the KLX 250F and he said he drilled out the air box and inserted like 8 or 10 small high flow mini filters. Has anyone heard of this and where do you get them? Plus you probably have to get a better flow main filter right? The other thing I wanted to talk to you guys about is the drilling of the stock muffler to help it breath better. How is this done, any Pics would be awesome.

I was talking with someone about the Crank case mod, and they say that you can intall a valve onto it so that its only one way and oil will not be able to enter the airbox, can anyone elaborate on this piece of advice, sounds good to me.

I read that too, but didn't they say that the rpms were in the 3,000 - 4,000 RPM range. At those RPMs it said it reached a quiet 92 or 96 db, can't remember. You think it will be much louder with the RPM's in the 7,000 range?

A cheap upgrade is an older KLX250 or KLX300 stock muffler/exhaust. I have bought 2 off e-bay for $20 each. You want one that has the removeable spark arrestor. It probably doesn't make as much power as a Muzzy, but it can be quiet or loud and it looks stock.

If you were to use a check valve, it would stop the vacuum, as well as the fluid flow. Doesn't work in my head.

I know exactly what you talking about. They are 1" snap-in, louvered little buggers, with a cleanable media. You will be better off removing the air-box lid until you can't stand the noise anymore. Drilling holes in the air box is permanent.
