Default MSD Single Cylinder Programmable CDI #4217

In an other thread sw0ggd0gg posted he is ordering one, hopefully he will inform us on his progress as he goes.

I tried to call MSD techline but they were closed today.

Here is some basic info

Here is the directions for install

Here is the tech forum with some info and troubleshooting http://www.msdignition.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=17

I'm not good with electric, will this work on our KLX's?

Make sure you guys are prepared to run race fuel.
Detonation will kill the piston, and you really won't see the full gain unless you do run it with high compression piston.
Just sayin'

It's already 11-1, and apparently has a pretty tame timing map (as most of these bikes will), so there should be some gains available. Not $350 worth, but some gains.
Detonation would likely take out the bottom end, and the rings before a piston.

So what exactly were you saying, anyway?

I was saying that detonation will burn a hole in the piston with too much timing and not enough octane, and or compression.
Never in my life have i seen detonation do harm to the bottom end of an engine.

might work. the jap (& aussy?) cdi runs more timing, could probably run that plus a little and still run 91 octane.

It is programmable, you don't have go crazy with advancing the timing, just be able to fine tune what you have already. Say you want to though sometime you can real easy.

Like zomby said the klx's seems to be on the lame side.

Does anyone know what the timing degrees and max rpm the 06,07,09,10 klx's cdi comes stock with?

This MSD cdi isn't really a plug and play type cdi for our KLX's is it?

definally not plug and play. if you want that, try the jap cdi. plug and play, and i think the timing is quicker and stays longer, making the bike more rev friendly from what i know. probably a lot cheaper too.

And where/how would you go about getting one of these puppies?
