Default MPG's with the new KLX250s

Just wondering what you folks are getting.I am thinking of getting a small dual sport for commuting to work on. I had a DRZ400S and sold it to get a cruiser. I found out after 6 months that cruiser's are not for me. The riding position hurst my back. I am 5'11" 220. Although my commute to work is 30 miles, none of it is on the interstate. I was thinking about the new XT250, (WR250R too expensive), KLX250S. Other possibilities include the DR650 and KLR650. And I will do some trail riding as well with the machine I go with. The DRZ I had was great for the trail riding I did, shouldn't have gotten rid of it. But I am sure you all know how that goes.

For commuting with comfort, I would suggest the 08 KLR the the new Corbin seat. Still gets a constant 50mpg and great power.

The KLX is an awsome, but you more than likely need to upgrade the suspension for your size, along with basic mods. And the seat isn't the best for every day commuting(imo).

The DRZ is happy medium. Good stock power, good suspension, lots of farkles available.

I like the look of the 08 KLR. How about that tank range.
Some Aussie bike mags have rated it highly on and off road. The perfect bush tourer?

If your commute to work is 30 miles one-way, you'll need to stop for gas before heading home every second day with the KLX (or fill it up at home from a 5-gallon can each night).

If I had to travel that far every day, I too would opt for the KLR650 (or Versys).

Forgot to answer your original question...

Depending on your riding style...in stock form I was getting 60-75mpg...after the mods I get 40-55mpg.

Ok thanks everyone. I think you are right in that the KLR650 would be better for my needs. Thanks for your honesty.

Yeah, either that or the Versys would be a good fit. If I were thinking about something is that displacement class, I'd definitely give the Versys a look, though I think the KLR fits the 'Dual sport' role a bit better.
