Default mpg question

I bought a 2012 klx 250s a couple weeks ago. Traded in my last bike which was a dr200se, and even stock this bike is a huge upgrade. I plan on adding a jet kit, full fmf exhaust and swapping to a kdx snorkel and 13t sprocket to begin with. How do these changes effect the gas mileage? What kind of mpg is everyone getting? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I bought my 2012 bran new and calculated 73 mpg...then realized how off my speedo was. I got a SpeedoDRD and re calibrated it and realized it was actually 65ish. I'm still playing with the jetting on my bike but right now its all stock except for a Twin Air filter, a DJ kit and a FMF Q4 slip on. I rip it quite a bit and have been getting 45 to 55ish mpg. I haven't really had the jet kit on long enough to get a solid number but I've been having to fill up a lot sooner then when it was stock. If you do those mods I'd definitely look at getting a 3 gallon tank IMHO.

Mileage issues can be all over the place depending on so many variables. However, whatever setup you have, there is an optimum jetting and gearing combination that will deliver the best mileage. Yes, gearing can have a very noticeable impact on mileage...and that's not just suggesting higher gearing for lower rpm. Often lower gearing will produce better numbers. It too depends on several other factors. I was surprised to get better mileage on my modded KLX with a 36mm pumper carb over the OEM CV carb. But that pumper carb apparently hits the optimum needs of the engine better than my OEM carb did, hence better mileage.

I get 53 mpg based on my mods below. But like TNC said, there are a lot of variables that affect mileage.

Ya, I upgraded to the 3 gal. IMS tank over the summer. I wish I would have done it sooner! I used to go about 75 miles before hitting reserve. Now I go around 135 miles before hitting reserve. It really makes a big difference. Infact, last weekend I went for a 125 mile ride and it was so nice not having to stop to refill along the way.

I upgraded to a 351 kit, bigger jet, kept the 13 tooth front sprocket and run at 50 mph all day, I pull in 48-53mpg. With the 250 jetted and pipes with the 13tooth front I was getting 54-56

I never really worried about the gas mileage

Where else can you get the joy and happiness of the trails or the open road and the freedom of not being boxed up and restrained

for $3.00 and hour i think that is cheap
