Default Moving

Hey y'all, I'm moving to Houston to work in 1 1/2 months. I was wondering if any of y'all lived around there to go riding, since I am moving by myself I won't be able to ride with my friends much w/ out alot of travel. If not, does anyone know any trails around the Houston area?

I used to live in Clear Lake a suburb south of Houston. The only place I knew of to ride, other than supercross style tracks, was an OHV trail system in the Sam Houston National Forest. There is a loop system with about 30+ miles of trails. They are for quads as well as bikes so they're a little wide. Mostly sand to deep sand through tight trees. The one boogus deal however is that they close the trails when it rains, and it rains alot in that part of the country.I thought the trails were really fun to ride, but I had to drive 100 miles one way. Did it almost every Sunday (when it didn't rain that week). Also check into STORM (they have a Hare Scrambles series) and Trail Riders of Houston.

Wow, I just mapped out to the Sam Houston Park. That is quite a haul. Did you ride your KLX all that way? Or did you load it into your truck?

I didn't even have my KLX then. I loaded my CRF450R in my truck and hauled it up there. On the road 7:00am on the trail 9:00am. Take alot of water and ice the heat and humidity will make ya kinda thirsty. BTW STORM stands for South Texas Off Road Motorcyclists. If you look on the Sam Houston National Forest's web site it has info so does the Trail Riders of Houston's web site. Not too many places to ride in that area, that I could find any way. I bought a Jet Ski, lots of places to ride those. Also the SHNF has a phone number to call for info on if the trails are open or not, I don't remember what it is though.

There are a couple of other things I just remembered. You have to buy a State of Texas OHV sticker $35.00 and you can only buy them at certain places. If I remember correctly Honda of Houston sells them. You also have to buy either a yearly permit from the Forest Service $30.00 or pay (I think $5.00 bucks)for a day pass. The Ranger there patrols the parking lot quite frequently.
