Default More Carb Questions

OK, everyone is going to think I'm brain dead and beating this to death....but, I'm still trying to determine what carb modifications to make and when.
As I have indicated, I drilled the 1/2" hole through the end of the stock muffler, and installed the KDX 200 snorkel -I do ride trails withmud and water andwill be leaving the airbox cover in place.I also put on a 13T front sproket.
I pulled the plug yesterday and after about 20 miles, it looks light brown. I have not installed the dynajet kit and it seems that everyone is saying not to bother unless I at least change the exhaust with a slip on?
Is anyone else set up exactly like my KLX with or without carb changes?
At this point, would I benefit from doing everything, needle mods etc., removing the air adjusting screw soft plugand setting it 2 -2 1/2 turns, but not changing the jets?
Thanks, Glen

What a coincidence, you should read my post ... Has anyone experienced this?
I guess we are both looking for the same answer

Is there a reason you don't want to change the jets and muffler? I had mine set up like yours when I first got the bike but it just didn't give me that much more power. I was really surprised by the power increase with the jets and the slip-on.

Frog,
Wow, I didn't see your post, but you have done even more than me, since you added the slip on and I only drilled the stock pipe.
Like you indicated about your bike, my KLX runs great as is and I keep reading about others making the carb changes and then having problems in one RPM area or another?
I wonder if it is possible that Kawasaki made some changes in the initial carb settings and diaphram later in production?
Like everyone else, I'd like to get the maximum dependable performance from the KLX, but want to minimize the trail and error.
Take care,
Glen

Mark,
I want to install the dynajet kit, but not if it won't make it run better -it runs great right now. I do have the benefit of my sons identical stock bike for comparison. I'll most likely get a slip on , leaning towards HMF, but it looks like I may want to hold off on the jet changes until then??
Thanks, Glen

If your just having fun and not trying to keep up on the freeway. Just stay as stock as possible. Jetting and Muzzy was fun, but not truly necessary. 122-125 jet, 200 snorkle, and drilled exaust work quite nicely. By the time I was done modifying, I was getting 42mpg. Not the 55 from the above changes.
