Monday's Ride and Photos of the KLX
Monday I rode down along the Withlacoochee River that splits the border of Georgia and Florida. It's about 20 miles south of home with lots of deep Pine woods and Oak thickets there, some clay roads and loads of sandy jeep trails.I packed the Fuji S9000 in the Moose tail bag so I could shoot some images of the bike and the area I was riding in along with a water bottle and headed out. We don't have the big hills and mountains that some of you do... but we do get to ride 12 months out of the year. You can't have everything... where would you put it?
I mounted the Moose tail bag like many suggested here on the forum with Adel clamps. One of my helmet pullover nets serves to keep my drink bottle wrapped in a damp towel in place. The damp towel keeps it cooler down here in the south.Yes I do ride in the woods with the mirrors as I ride the bike on the highway to the woods. I want to see if somebody is gaining on me.
This looked like a neat place to show the bike and trails. Just after taking this picture I was walking back to the bike and saw something running up the road and just loaping around the curve in the trail. It was a Cyotte and it had something in it's mouth and was looking back over it's shoulder as it ran.
This is was I came across. Sad sight, but it's nature. We have Cyottes all over here in this area. They have slowly migrated eastward through Florida and into south Georgia.
They gotta eattoo I guess. Cyottes can take down a full sized White Tail deer also.
The HMF muffler went on very easliy. Everything fit and the fit between the muffler and header pipe is very snug. I turned the license plate around like some do here.I removed the stick out blinkers in the rear and attached these slim blinkers they were 'el cheapo' at $20 from a local shop and they are bright. Not LED's so no problem with blink rate.
Moose guards really work. Had to 'finagle' a bitwith them to lineup after cutting off about 3/4 inch from the ends of the bars and grinding out the plug so I could put in the rubber inserts they supplied. Also had to mill down an angle on the mounts so they cleared the cross bar. I think the blinkers out on the covers look fine and were easy to wire in. The new headlight shroud was necessary because of I tried to run over a 6 inch pine right after I got back into dirt riding.
You can see here where I came through the cover with the blinker wire. I drilled and tapped the guards where the covers had holes in them.
The Garmin 2610 is the way to go IMO.It's got this big screen and has all the bells and whistles you could possibly want. About 4 years ago this unit cost about $950 on the net. I got this one on eBay from a private buyer for $150 with all the parts including Map Source. When I get to the woods... I clear my track and set it to 200 feet. It stores a point every 200' and I can load that into Map Source at home and see just where I rode. Also looking at my track at 120'scalewhile in the woods lets me go right back to where I came into the woods.
Finally got down to the river. Found this makeshift boat ramp. Wanted to get the bike closer to the water, but it got pretty steep from here.
This is the last shot. I put this one in Photoshop to do the title and the list of mods. Did forget one, the second mod I did... 13t front sprocket. Have two more coming. 1. 45t rear sprocket and 2. Clarke tank was shipped yesterday. I don't know if we ever get finished with a bike. Thanks for looking and be safe.

Very Nice ride report and pics!!! We need more of these post here. Seems the form is working better now
The coyotes have got some of the older Yankees here in Florida a little rilled up lately..oh well I guess the yankees don't know their place.
You ever make it down to Florida proper, say Ocala National Forest.....lots of us ride down here, some camp....I rent a cabin.

TC,
Great post young man! I live in the mountains here in central California and we have bookoo coyotes, mountain lions and a sh%t load of black bear. I can't go riding without seeing at least one predator species and a few mule deer & antelope if i ride down to the high desert plains. I will try to post some pics of my next ride if the forum is still working. Nice bike!

Hey Eric thanks for the post on doing it. I had been doing that in the past and have had a Photobucket account for a year or so, but then the forum was screwing up I'd get a post ready with the pics and then it would just crap up and nothing would post. It still does the multi ' in places.
Thanks guys for the comments. The bike is a real blast now that the HMF is on there. Feels like that just made all the carb and air box mods come alive. Just needs a tad more grunt in the bottom two gears for me.
Finger Mullet (I hate that avatar though) I'd sure like to ride that forrest with you guys. I'm available at any time because all I do now is ride or work on and in the shop. With the three bikes there is most always something to do. I'll talk to you about that later. Gotta finish dressing as I meet guys for a breakfast ride in about 30 minutes.

Tommy....you are the bomb man!!! Great shots, but then again they better be from you. What a great ride report, this is what we have been missing around here. Looks like the forum is working better today, but as a warning to all those that are putting time and energy into these reports or long posts, make sure to copy first, then post. That way if it goes to page not found or an error, you can come back and hit the paste button, it has saved me more than once after a 50 picture report. Oh and I'm sure I did, but in case I didn't ....Welcome Tommy!

Hey guys, thanks for the input on the ride report and pictures. Sometimes I screw up and make a pretty good image. Memory cards are cheap and you can use 'em over and over. You know what they say.... 'Even a Blind Hog can find an Acorn every once in awhile'!
Glad you liked them Deej... but when I told my wife 'I was the Bomb' she went under the table. Something about a big mushroom cloud.
WD~40, that Avatar is pretty funny aint it? But I just feel like I've done something to make him mad at me! But, I'm thinking about printing out an 8x10 of it to keep on the bike so insted of hollering at drivers, I'll just hold up their sign. Kinda makes me think of Bill Engvall on the tube.
Well just came from in from an evening ride of only about 50 miles on the GL1800. My first wife and I went to supper. I introduce her that way to keep her on her toes. She says I've been full of it for years.

Addendum - Deej, Right on with the Copy 'n Paste. The most important 4 keys for me on the Keyboard are the group of Ctrl V back to over to Crtl Z. And in Photoshop it's Crtl Z because I can continue to do Ctrl Z to Undo the last steps one after another. Be Good
