i have the muzzy pipe but it puts out 117 db at 4000 rpm's. that's way to loud for an AMA sanctioned duel sport ride. I massaged the end cap from my son's xr 250 to fit the muzzy. here's the question. that end cap is no larger that the stock end cap for the klx. i'm a bit concerned that there is now too much back pressure with the mikuni carb that i have. will all that back pressure cause any type of engine damage?is it possible to blow ahead gasket because of too much back pressure? i know that the bike will run rich but i'm notconcerened about that. i won't be riding the bike like this. i'm just trying to pass the sound test. i figure that once all the bikes are up and running i'll just blend in with all the noise.

 

Do you have the quiet core on the muzzy? You have to spend the extra $29.00 for it. It is supposed to only be around 94db with it. Jeremy

 

I thought the Muzzy came with a quiet insert. Is that ordered separately?

I don't see any problem with running it that way for a short period of time. I don't see how it could cause any damage, other tha possibly getting your plug all sooty.

 

yeah i have the quiet core. it's only about 3 1/2 inches long. i also have the spark arrester screen that goes inside it. measured at 20 inches at idle it's 102 db. so 94 db's is a dream. unless they measured it from across town.

 

my muzzy didn't come with the arrestor, or the quiet core. The web site say's the quiet core is "optional" so I assume you have to order it . I never realized the muzzy was 117db without the core. I thought it was to loud though. I ordered my insert because I'm taking the experienced motorcycle class, which at the end of the class you get your license. Their motto is "loud pipes lose sites", so I figured I should at least make an effort to quiet the thing down. Although I'm taking the class at willow grove naval air station, so I'm pretty sure the A-10's are slightly louder than my klx

I can't believe it's that loud unless there's something wrong with your pipe. I've heard loud MX pipes and the Muzzy w/quiet core is a ***** cat by comparison and even they are not 117 dB. Maybe they forgot to put packing in your pipe? Stranger things have happened. I'd get a second reading. 117 dB is LOUD. Only a little louder at 120 dB is like being in the front row at a rock concert, you know, when your ears ring for a day or so afterwards? I'd be really surprised if it was that loud.

LOL on the sensoring, ha ha.

 

i'll check to see if there is packing in there if i'm able to. we tested it about a dozen times cause we also thought that it was wrong but it came out the same everytime.
