Default Which Mod First? pumper carb or Pipe?

Im debating on which mod i should get First. my funds are limited for the time being and i can only pick one mod for now. Im thinking that i will buy a mikuni tm33 pumper carb and shoehorn it in. I have done all the free mods on my bike and the stock exhaust is opened up. So what do you guys think? Oh yeah i have read on the forums for a while,. this is just my first post.

Nope, buy the 13 tooth up front and the 45 for the back, and see if you will even want to do the carb. Add a Full Muzzy later and a little jetting and you won't even need to do anything else. Oh and if you do the 13 tooth by itself you can use the stock chain, add the 45 in the back and you will need a new chain. For the quick and easy money I would do the gears and the chain. Oh and welcome Jesse, oh and I see from the zip code you are from my neck of the woods, maybe I'll see you out there on one of the organized rides. Later man.

Here is a good thread about sprockets, when I got mine way back when I got one without the built in shoulder, I had to get a machine shop to make mine. Here is the link. Oh and I have never been to Walker Valley, but I have been to Reiter over by Monroe. Tony and Scat are closer to you than I am, maybe they will chime in and invite you to some local rides. Maybe I'll see you soon.

I love my Two Brothers pipe. I have not changed any gearing; and the two brothers, air box modification and some jetting realy gave me the little extra power I was looking for. It also sound GREAT. Gearing change like deej said is definately not a bad idea, I just have not got around to it; my chain and sprocket are not wore out, I am waiting for that first.

I would go with a full exhaust system before the pumper carb. You can then appropriately jet the CVK. I had this setup for a while before going to the pumper.

Welcome Jesse!

If you can only do one mod at a time, I would recommend getting the pumper carb last. The real benefit of a pumper carb is in throttle response. It doesn't really add any power - it just gives you what power you do have instantly. They work really well in conjunction with other mods. A freer-flowing air filter and exhaust willcomplimentwhat a pumper carb does.

I have a Bill Blue TM34 carb and I really like it. But if I was where you're at, I'd get an exhaust and an air filter next. Rejet the stock carband possibly change the gearing. Then see what you've got and decide on the pumper.

Personally, i wouldnt waste that much money ona pumper carb..... not that big of difference......i have ridden bikes with and without. go the big bore before pumper if you decide to get a pumper.

I guess I will be the first dissenter. Ithink the pumper carb really transforms the bike. Off road riding is definitely more noticeable than on road riding, so that may help in determining what to do first. You still however, would need to open up the exhaust.A cheaper method over say a Muzzy type full system would be to get a Four Stroke Works header for about $160.00 and a stock 300muffler, cheapoff e-bay, with the but plug removed. I don't have any experience with the Mikuni pumper but my FCR35 sure put a huge smile on my facevs. the CVK.

I'm with Deej on the gearing change. If you go 13/45 you lose the stock chain anyway so my recommendation would be to keep the 14 tooth up front and go with a 48 tooth in back. They are readily available (same as KLX300) and fairly inexpensive. You can also get a decent o-ring chain, 110 link, from Rocky Mountain ATV, Primary Drive brand. You can also go down to a 13t up front, keep the stock chain, gain some needed performance for cheap. I think the sticky thread at the top of the board has part numbers.

Just to throw another option into the mix, if you are over 150 lbs, I would re-spring the suspension before either the carb or exhaust. For me the suspension work made the bike a ton more fun to ride and more stable, in all terrains. Look here for more info http://www.moto-pro.com/default.asp

Welcome aboard and good luck with your new addiction.
