That is correct. If they don't come with them, they were designed not to have them. If they came with them, leave them on. They wouldn't sell replacements if you didn't need them.

+1 and the rest of this is because just "+1" is too short for the forum software to accept.

I don't know...I think we should keep the "Goldwing" theme going.

Can't believe this thread is three pages long. Here is the proof that you do not need the metal thingy on the front of your boots.
See, no metal thingy on this guys boots. Oh wait,,,,,, he's riding a Goldwing , sorry.

I did notice that some of those pictured that didn't have the metal guard still had a piece of molded rubber or plastic cover instead of metal. It seems that most boots have something to cover that part of the sole. Thinking about it, maybe the trail and enduro boots are the ones that usually have the protection, and perhaps motocross specific boots don't need it. That said, I doubt that most folks have specific boots for specific riding. Boots that don't have a metal protector probably have design that stops the sole from delaminating, but I'd be leary of removing the guard from a boot that came with it...unless I was riding a Goldwing.
let me go put my *** hat on.........
i didnt put as much effort into it as you did. i just noticed that most of the boots at the cycle gear i was at didnt have the metal cap. i ***-umed most of the boot makers were doing the same.

maybe the metal toe cap adds horse power?

that really didnt make much sense but doing a wheelie on a gold wing doesnt either.

LOL!...dan, that's an awesome pic! I was thinking that may be a photoshopped deal due to the lack of wrinkle in the rear tire, but the driver has an awfully intense look on his face...maybe even a little terror.

The toe cap's true function is to help activate traffic signals. Ya's all stunned or what! Seriously though........scratching the paint....... the klx is not a show and shine type of machine. Scratch her up and show off yer battle wounds next time your parked next to a glistening cruiser. Now when the toe cap start wearing a gouge deep enough to start worrying about oil pouring out...........then it becomes a concern. I feel better now.

Here's one more reason for leaving on the toe caps. Kicking catholes when you're out in the woods and need to take a dump.

Right. The first time I saw the pic, I was sure it was P-shop, too outrageous to be real. Looking closely at it for giveaways, I couldn't find much. When I noticed the reflection in the front disc cover, I started thinking it was a for real pic. The reflection shows the horizon parallel with the road fence etc. If it were P-shopped ( the bike rotated up to look like a wheelie ) the reflected horizon would be parallel with the bikes length.
