Yeah, Scott, I'm with you. I like Colorado and other forested areas for riding but not quite as well as the rocky high desert conditions. Scott, I wish you could have made the Big Bend area trip with me this year that you were planning. I'm heading out at the end of the month for 2 weeks of camping and riding, and after this stupid election it will be a very welcome distraction. And...might as well enjoy these freedoms and fuel availability while they last. I see an even stronger, concerted effort from those on the left to push our dirt bikes out of the backcountry, and with a stronger war against fossil fuels, you'd better enjoy these "lower prices"...LOL!, yeah right...we have now than later.

 

Thad, I was really looking forward to Big Bend, but the darn broken leg thing ate up all my sick leave, then all my vacation leave, etc.

The enviros are making big pushes to close more and more land. The BLM and Forest Service often seem all to happy to comply. Enjoy it while you can, and FIGHT to keep your right to use YOUR land.

 

I wouldn't mind giving the wide open areas a try I do know that I enjoy the wide jeep trails out in CO. I will have to say that it is quite a thrill to thread through trees that are narrower than your bars, jigging and jogging to slip through. I always ask my buddies what makes this so fun. Drive 4-5 hrs away to beat yourself, and your machine, up. Shore is fun though.

 

Yeah, Dan, it's not all open jeep roads in CO.

 

I know , I was just trying to relate to your and Scott's tastes. Wide open around here means you're out in the middle of a corn, or bean, field. If the farmer just chisel plowed it , it's real fun.

 

LOL!...now that's funny. Just this afternoon I was test riding my KLX in the freshly mowed coastal bermuda hay field in front of my house. I almost never take my bike through it, but I had just replaced the throttle tube and grips on the bike and wanted to test it. Even some of Texas looks a lot like your area there.

 

It's not always wide-open, but I don't too often find myself bouncing off of trees...yet. Those trails are around. My goal is to find them next year.

 

Alright Scott...what's the story of the bike in the creek. Fall over or just drown out? You didn't have too many PBR's right before this shot, did you?

 

Thad, you're displaying that "it's always bigger in Texas" attitude. In little 'ol Idaho we call that a river: Yankee Fork Salmon River. Rode across on the way over and scared the bejezis out of me as the boulders just kept getting larger and water deeper. Thought for sure I was going down and couldn't believe I made it. Of course no pics of that. On the way back, I didn't want to press my luck and just walked it (and in a shallower location). Didn't you see the ride report?

Now c'mon, Scott. A river needs a boat to get across. Some creeks can be crossed with a vehicle. Yeah, I saw that other ride report, but I thought you were just photoshopping all your ride pics in that one.
