Default Making some progress on the klx300

Front went together like a breeze
Here’s my attempt at a spacer
Found some braided lines on eBay off an old klx the 320mm rotors worked nice
My seat doesn’t sit right because my shim for the pumper carb needs to be reworked
Looks rediculous, I really need to fix my tank spacer for the pumper carb
Here’s hard earned money and a wheel that rubs the chain.
My **** is so ghetto. I’ve got chain rub on my rear tire and not sure what to do. Made a spacer out of an old sprocket but who knows how safe that will be.... here are some pictures

What size tire? You should run a 140. You can sand the left edge with a sanding block spinning the tire.

150/60/17 I thought I could get away with it and have a little chain rub but it’s definetly more than a little. I’ll have to order a 140 now. Are you saying like sand the inside edge of the tire haha, i can see how that would work but I think I’d have to sand like a good inch haha. Might be better if I take this off and try and sell it for a fraction of the price, it’s a diablo 3 Rosso.

Looking good. Shame about the tire. Some have reported 150's work fine and others say they rub, must be a luck of the draw on tire shape and true width. Need to get myself a new set of tires spooned on for next years track season.

Yeah this stuff never works out right and it’s a klx300 which makes the money I’m spending on it lkind of painful, but it’s such a fun bike. Yeah it’s not the quickest and yeah it’s not lots of torque but just fun as hell to ride.

True width is the trick with tires. I attended a Honda seminar back in the 80s. Bridgestone rep pointed out there can be significant differences in width because there is about a +/- 50 mm allowance. The trick is to look up the tire manufacturer and see what they have for the actual inflated width/rim size to see what may work. Back when a Metzler Lazer 120/80-16 was essentially slightly larger than a Dunlop 110/80-16. The Metzler 130/80-18 was dwarfed by the Bridgestone 130/80-18. You do need to research actual tire sizes to know for sure.

+/- 50 mm is almost 2 inches. That sounds like a very sloppy tolerance. Is there a missing decimal point?

Yes, it should be +/- 5mm. I got too much metric on the mind... teaching robotics and doing stuff in cm and inches, getting confluzed.

Although there was nearly 2" on that old Metzler and Bridgestone.

Nice Sumo! I like the Continental Attack SM tires. Purpose built for SM. They have a straighter side wall for chain clearance and are H rated for quick warm up.
