Sitting at a buddys house the other day a clanky car goes by followed by a bang and a scraping noise. The ladys husband had been playing mechanic wich resulted in the wheel flying off into the woods only after it wiped out the front fender. She said the car had been making noise for a while then asked "is my car totaled". It happened 100' from us. Still looking for the rim cause it's worth 20$ as scrap metal.

 

Years ago we had a vehicle in this country made by Chevy, called the "El Camino". From the front bumper back to the doors it was essentially a softly sprung sedan (a Chevelle, as I recall, others will jump in to correct me if I mispeak) with what looked for all the world like a real pickup bed in the back. This was an illusion of the highest magnitude.

I never saw a catastrophic failure like the one in your photo, but I'll bet they happened. Better to have more tool than you need, lest you end up at www.moron.
