Ok, So I hate the long 1/2 twist of the stock throttle. I'm going to get the Magura 314 Throttle for my 2009 KLX250S. This is the throttle I'm getting.

My question is, What exact cable do I need to order to work with this throttle and my stock carb?

I know it will only be the one pull cable only which is fine. I haven't had the push/return cable on my bike in years anyway. Good strong return spring, so it's not really needed.

I'd like to order these ASAP in order to have it installed for a 2 day group ride on the 12th. So a link to the correct cable would really help. I'm also going to remove the start and run switches and just wire up a start button using a momentary ON Kill button. Of course the key will be used to kill the engine. I've done this on a few other dual sport bikes I've had.

I searched and read a few threads about this, but nothing saying what cable to get. Just that you need to get the correct cable, but not which one IS correct....LOL

Anyone know if this Vortex or the Magura 314 will work with stock cable? Also which one of the 2 have the least amount or quicker twist?

I'm not an expert, but I think you're over thinking the throttle cable issue.

There's a lot of room to play in that cable and I can't imagine the throttle assembly setting it that far out of whack.

 

Thats not my concern. I read in another thread that you need a different cable because the cable casing at the throttle threads into the throttle housing unlike the stock throttle. At this point, I think I'll just order one of those throttles and see what's needed if anything when I get it. I just really wanted it for this ride in 2 weeks. Posted here, ThumperTalk, and ADVrider, and no answers yet. I know a bunch have these here because this is where I read about them. I'll have to wing it. Really like to know how these 2 differ in amount of twist. Kinda leaning towards the Vortex because it's aluminum.

 

Ah, that does make more sense.

I was reading another thread from 2014 where someone advised against the metal tube if you're doing much off roading. If tou dump the bike and dent the tube, the friction will prevent it from turning. The plastic one might crack but should still be useable.

Yep, that's the Zeta tube I think. I don't like that setup for a number of reasons. 2 being, an aluminum tube is NFG in my opinion, plus I don't want the switches on the stock throttle.


Yeah, I just ordered the Vortex unit. It's the whole replacement throttle, not just the tube. It's an aluminum housing with plastic tube which I prefer. It's a basic MX throttle and doesn't have the switches which I don't want anyway. I ordered a momentary ON Kill switch which I will wire up as the start button, and just turn the key off to kill the engine. I like to keep things simple....
