Picked up a few others today..nothing special. Its amazing how the camera totally downplays the size and steepness of the hills. Not that they're monsters, but on camera, they look nearly flat. I can assure you thats not true, the roar of the engine should indicate that.

Cool.
And yea, those hills looked steep to me.
Trees are also formidable obstacles.

It's not as easy as one would think to get good vids, is it?
+1 - very challenging

One thing I learned pretty quickly after I started doing helmet cams of my rides over a year ago is that the camera flattens out the hills, smoothes over the rough parts of the trail, and slows everything down. But it's hard to realize how much of an effect it is until you experience it for yourself.

Yep thats right.
And whats most annoying is that something that seemed really challenging out there, looks real easy on the video.
So when you show people who don't ride, and you say "it was much harder that it looks" they go yeah right.

Or when your hooting along at what you think is a good pace, only to play it back and it looks like a casual ride.

Then again, I have been going along thinking, man I'm fast today, right on the edge, think I should go pro.
Only to be passed by some young turk on a Wr,Crf,Exc,Berg thingy, on one wheel and waving at me.
Might have to stick with the 9-5 job just a little longer.

I hear ya, Neil - you said it exactly. I've been white knuckled on the bars many times thinking, man, this is going to turn out great, only to get a real eye opener when I played it back. Watching your own helmet cam vids inspires humility and character building.

But after doing so many, these days I usually I just turn it on and forget it's there and just ride. It's a lot more fun that way to not even think about it being there and how it's going to look. I'd still like to get a hare scramble, though. Still on my list ...
