Luggage rack or case for 2009 KLX-205S?
#11
On my 700 mile trip to Vancouver Island I'm sure I had more that 50 lbs on the rack, and we were riding on rough roads. While it didn't break, I'm sure I didn't do it any favors.

Just check out the rear carrier tube. The closer to rear seat the greater load capacity. Beyond rear seat there is no more support, just two thin tube hanging out without support under it. It is not good idea to extend the original tube length unless it is for light load.

Mine can hold 3-MSR (33oz) bottles and is attached to the rack by Velcro so it can "break-away" if you dump the bike and not sustain a back injury in the process.

It's really easy. You go to the hardware store and pick up 3 rubber clamps sometimes called Adell clamps. Here is a picture as to what they look like. All you do is drill three holes at the right spot and mount the case with some rubber washers and self locking nuts and bolts. There was an install thread way back in the day like almost 3 years ago. I'll do a search and see if I can find it. Peace Karl.
Reviving this old thread.
Any updated thoughts on this set-up? I'm thinking about attaching a Pelican case to my 250SF but wanted more recent thoughts on this method.
Thanks.
