Default Lost 4th, 5th and 6th... help?

I lost 4th, 5th and 6th gears. I get 1-N-2-3... and then it just acts like that is all it has.

Anybody had this problem or know of any tricks to get 4-6 back please let me know. Otherwise guesses are welcome.

- I'll change the oil, but it has oil.
- Clutch works fine,
- Shift seems to have full motion.

Thanks

It's broke...you need to fix it. Either that or drive around in gears 1-3. Sorry I'm not much help when it somes to the gears. I envision a case split for you in the near future though. I don't trust myself on such issues and wouldn't have the time or facilities to play around and figure it out if it happened to me.

If it were me, I'd take it to a reputable garage or dealer. Maybe Brewster will chime-in with some honest to god knowledge on the subject.

Can you give a little info on what might have happened to cause the problem?

Crash lately or did it just show up?

SWAG - the pins on the shift star not engaging the mechanism in those gears.... stripped off the teeth on those gears (doubtful)

No transmission expert at all, but it sounds like something associated with the shift star/shift drum mechanism. There are 3 shift forks, but one of them controls 3rd and 4th, so I doubt it is fork related due to 3rd gear still working...unless the fork is stuck in 3rd. The other two forks control 5th and 6th. All three forks go south at the same time?...I don't know.

Since the problem is in a numbered sequence of 4-5-6, it sounds like the shift star/drum components are not rotating past 3rd for some reason. You can take off the shifter cover without splitting the cases, of course, so that would be my first step. Hopefully you'll find something amiss there when you inspect that.

Someone else had the same problem recently. If my feeble brain remembers correctly, it had to do with the alignment dowel between the shift star and the shift drum.

A friend was riding it and "crashed" about 6 times that day.. Geez... He bent both the levers on seperate "crashes". These "crashes" were all mild low speed ones and just dumb but he was a noob to dirt and just had really bad day. My bike took most of the beating.

Thanks for all the help, I'll see if I can find anything about the Shift Star....

Any pictures on the "Shift Star" and the "Alignment Dowel". and any help as to which piece I remove to insept these itmes would be great. Thanks!!

Bike runs strong in 1-2-3, but just does not go any higher than 3rd.

Hmmmmm friends need to have thier own bikes

You can take off the shifter cover without splitting the cases
Will oil come out?
Said another way, I'll be changing the oil, when it is drained of oil, is that the best time to remove the shift cover?

Thanks
