Default Looking to buy a KLX

Looking at a used 2014 KLX250 with 55K KMs (35K miles) and I'm wondering if this is too high or is it ok?
Also what is the max speed that one can comfortably cruise at?

Most people have always shied away from motorcycles with high mileage, which makes them almost impossible to sell. I know. I had a 5 year old 2006 Roadstar 1700 with 70,000 miles. The bike was flawless, but I stll had a difficult time sellling it. Luckliy, I was able to sell it to someone who knew that I kept up on the maintenance. To me, the guy got a heck of deal, but I was riding my 2008 KLR 650 as my daily ride and after about a year I just couldn't take seeing Roadstar just sitting in my garage

Apparently with 35K on the clock it's been ridden, but was it ridden and put up wet? Are there maintenance records? What does the bike look like, normal wear and tear or does it look like it's been dragged behind a pickup truck on a caliche road? Tires, chain, sprockets and brake pads could be some of the normal wear and tear items that may need to be replaced. Swing arm bearings, steering head bearings and valve adjustment are just of few of the hidden maintenance issues that can come from buying any used bike. How much does the guy want? Consider what it going to cost you to replace the normal wear and tear and what it could cost you if the other items need replacement.

Max speed that one can comfortably cruise at? That can be influenced by tires, the rear sprocket and counter spocket set up. I run a stock 14T counter sprocket and a 47T rear sprocket, (stock is 42T). I can run 65 MPH comfortable, but with my set up (tires and rear sprocket) my KLX is more suitable for dirt roads. On my KLR650 I run a 16T (14T is stock) with the stock 43T rear sprocket. This set up dropped my highway RPM's and I cruise that pig around 75 to 85 MPH.

If you can get the bike at a decent price and you're willing and able to put some time into making it yours, it could be worth it and rewarding. I bought a 2004 KDX220 last July and tore it down to the frame while going through the bike. I put in around $600 in parts and so now for around $1100 I now have a good fun trails bike.

Hope this helped a little bit anyway. Good luck and keep us updated on this.

Heck, if the price is right you can always tear down the top end and put a big bore on it! I wouldn't be horribly afraid of that if the price is right.

Try to get a test drive in. Klx250 is the sort of bike that it might be a problem or might not. Klx miles can be very different from the miles another klx got, like revving high in the forest vs. Just smoothnputting around in city.
