Default longest lasting chain

What kind of chain would last the longest I would like some thing that I could get about 8000 miles out of. I ride all kinds of conditions plus alot of road riding. The chain I had last year stretched too much. It was a standered o ring chain whith a tensile strength of 7100.What do you thinkshould I go with o ring or not?I went threw 2 front sprockets and 4 rears. I was running a 14 45 in the spring then a 14 48 in the winter. I would like a chain so I can buy only one set of sprockets. I am planing on running 14 45 when I buy the stuff. What kind of sprockets last longer too? What is the cheapest place to buy them?

Best way to get good mileage is to clean your chain with lube immediately everytime you wash the bike and then to lube it before use.
Also make sure to do a good check to make sure that everything is inline. It is important, just accurately measure from swingarm pivot to axle center both sides. If it is out even a little that will chop your sprockets fast. Even do a full alignment check with both wheels against a reference line.
O ring chains should get better mileage but will sap some horsepower in comparason to a straight sideplate chain.
Cheapest wont mean longest lasting! there is no need to buy alloy sprockets or cheap replicas, these will chop faster than stock
Good luck

I do not know what they cost - but sidewinder has an add for life time warranty on chain and sprockets. look in dirt bike mag. or look them up on line

Have nothing but the best about Ironman sprockets (also sold under the MSR brand name). they are supposedly guaranteed for life - but not inexpensive.

This is a little off topic, but I've got a Renthal chain and I had to remove links from it. Well I really had no idea what I was doing so rather than grind off the rivet of the link, I tried to cut through the "cylinder" but stopped because it was spinning (dummy).

After coming on here and learning how to do it properly, I got it all linked up, but still have that "cylinder" that has a tiny groove in the middle of it all around. How soon is this going to cause problems? I'm thinking it will probably wear out quickly, but maybe not at all.

If it is really grooved then it will wear odd. Depending on where the chain/sprockets are in their life cycle, I could be tempted to just run it. Keep an eye out though especially on the c/shaft sprocket for abnormal wear.
Better: If you want to fix the problem, remove the damaged area using a chain breaker then you can rebuild the chain. The chainbreaker/riveter kit might cost more than a chain but then you have it for life! Practice on some old chain first!
Good luck

Good plan. the sprockets are pretty much brand new, and its just ever so slight of a groove, as i couldnt get the dremmel to bite into it .

I think i'll keep an eye on things and if it gets bad i'll buy a breaker just in case.

Only real issue will be if the roller collapses in use. I have seen it, but it is rare, you will still get home.
Oh the reason I said rebuild the chain is simply because it is not good practice to have 2 master links, even so, I have also done that to get me out of a bind. ( Saturday fixits after the shop is closed and you are riding tomorrow)
