Been there, done that... Sometimes it takes a little deductive reasoning to find the problem. Glad you got it sorted out.

looks like one of the "washer" type ring on the link broke off in the connecting link...chain is crooked at this joint...the chain after this broken stuck link looks like it was worn down to half and other parts were grinding down...

if anyone with an sf model is looking for a hard-to-find 40t or 41t steel rear sprocket, i found one company that makes them...drc - DRC PRODUCTS - and sold from https://www.wheelingcyclesupply.com/ ...dr34-24-0** $62.90 total after shipping...will be switching to a 15t front/40t rear sprockets...think this is the perfect freeway and long distance gearing for the klx250sf....switching to 13t/40t for fun rides should be very interesting with all the pull...

Default scary sprocket

Is that a bicycle sprocket?

Looks kinda skimpy for a MC part!

Steel for longevity without a doubt.
I prefer steel chainrings for the MTB, especially the small & middle rings.

Yeah, but that's because you never get out of your 22T...right?

My preference would also always be steel, but I did run an aluminum rear sprocket on a sportbike once and I was very surprised how well it wore. It lasted just about as well as steel.

Dayum! How it you know that? You've been here? Looking for a 11 - 40 cogset.

Well, on the way down I'm using the 36. Just two rings these days.
