Little help with a parts list for my new 250
Finally got my cash together, so I hope to be picking up my NEW (leftover) 2006 250 tomorrow. I'd like to go ahead and get some sprockets, chain, an exhaust system (if they stock them), jets, needle, air filter, and anything else that I might need mod-wise while I'm at the dealer. I plan to do the break-in while it's stock...then go for the mods. Not really looking to go with a larger bore or anything like that right off the bat...just want to make her breath better.
For gearing and jetting, I'm at 2700' elevation and will ride in areas 2000' higher and lower with a rough ratio of 30% street and 70% trail (mtns). My street riding will likely be to and from offroad riding areas with a max speed of 60mph and a maximum street distance of 40 miles or so, so I'm more concerned with offroad gearing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey snal, glad to see you getting your bike! We will have to talk speed sometime. I would love to run a bike at Bonneville!
I would go with the 13t 45t then you could switch the stock 14 back and forth if you don't like that much low end. You will need a new chain. I ended up just getting a long 120 link chain and cutting it off. The bike has a master link so it's a snap changing out the chain. I am coming form street bikes also and didn't know they still put removable master links on bikes anymore. Exhaust is a heated question around here. There are basically 4 options I know of. HMF (slip on), Two Brothers (slip on), Big Gun full system, and the Muzzy full system. I have the HMF and it isa very well built pipe but needs a little help with the fit. (1/2" spacer will do it) I love the way my pipe sounds and looks but I am not going to comment on the other pipes because I don't want to start another "pipe battle" as for the jetting I will leave that to some of the other guys here. I just got my parts in for the carb and not sure which I will be using.

Thanks! We have team members inMcdonaugh(SP) Ga....and Blackshear...you should ride up and join us....check the ecta-lsr.com site for the schedule....I assure you that you'll never forget it!...lotsa really good folks!
I've been following the HMF thread, sounds good, and I have a metal fab shop, so I can make any kindof bracket.

Wow, my parents live in Mcdonough. I'll look it up. I'll post some pics of the bracket I built for the HMF and I am sure you could improve on it if you go in that direction. I like the way mine turned out because it is 2" in closer to the bike. It doesn't stick out the back as much.

RE: Little help with a parts list for my new 250
chances are your dealer won't stock many of the parts you mention. ronayers.com is the place to buy carb parts and they take forever. air filters and chain won't be a problem. i wouldn't buy a longer chain just so you can shorten it. denniskirk.com stocks a good x-ring chain i bought for my 13/45 setup. it was $60 and tensile strength equivalent of RK's best. you'll need 108 if you go this route, but you'll be pushing 7000 rpms at 60 mph just fyi. honestly the 13-tooth front sprocket is the best mod you can do to the bike imo besides of course the full system. if you do plan on boring in the future, don't waste your money on a slip-on, because a larger bore needs to breathe better than the skinny choked up oem header. plan for the future. 45-teeth rear sprockets are easy to find as all KX's and KLX's use the same hub. I'd buy a Renthal from denniskirk.com, $60 and they offer free shipping after $100 worth of stuff. check out the sticky threads at the top of the forum to see what carb parts you'll need. copy and paste them to ronayers.com's part # locator and then add them to your cart. only question will be what main jet you'll need. i run 128 main and stock 35 pilot in Iowa with the N1TC needle on the 2nd slot i believe. i have a UniFilter, well you can see my signature. it runs awesome for what it is. if i keepthe bikei have a 300 cylinder i will send to kustom kraft for their 331 big bore kit to give it some true torque. glad to hear you're getting a KLX. they're fun little bikes, but do need a moderate amount of tweaking and modding to really run good. they're gutless in stock form.

Read this for step by step on jetting.

Snal, normally I go with RonAyers for parts, but since you are in Asheville, you out to check out MR Cycles. They are located in Asheville and they appear to have comparable pricing to RonAyers. I have never ordered from them, but you might be able to order from them and pick stuff up to save shipping. Just a thought.
Here is their info from their site (www.mrcycles.com)

RE: Little help with a parts list for my new 250
Thanks Chris...the dealer that I bought the bike from (she's home BTW!!!!!!!!) had virtually no parts. The 4.5 hour round trip was well worth the effort though....I got a new 06 for $3999.00 out the door...they didn't try to sell me anything else. I'd faxed my info to them at 9am this morning, and the bike was ready to load when I got there at noon. I was at the dealership all of 20 minutes! This was in Tennessee...so I'll have to pay the NC tax when I go for the tag tomorrow.
