The technology is getting there, at SEMA baja designs had an 8" LED bar that in broad daylight, shown (shawn?) across the entire convention center and lit up the other wall. To be frank it was blinding!

RG, I'm pretty sure you realize that comparing that 16W LED setup to the twin BD HIDs is fairly apples-to-oranges, right? And that 16W setup is a spot design. Is that 16W setup a Chinese design? Here is perhaps a better LED setup from BD in the same or smaller package than the 16W on your ATV. It's a 42W rated at 4300 lumens. A pair of these would be smaller than the BD twin HID setup and still be overkill for what most would need for serious night riding...and slightly lower power draw.

Squadron, LED Driving

Rim, your comment about the LED in fog is true, but it's the same with HID in those conditions. Any really bright light goes to crap directly ahead in fog or dust. I notice the guys racing in our Baja events at our off road place start turning off the straight ahead part of their light bars and run off the more side oriented lights in some of the dusty conditions while overtaking and passing at night due to dust.

And I'm not dissin' HID. Both provide way more performance than halogen/conventional design. I just notice more and more of our Baja racing vehicles going more and more to LED over HID. I think durability and power draw seem to be the driving factors. On a bike without a modded, high output stator, the power draw can be a big deal.

This was just a test to see how the led functions on a 2 stroke atv/ac current powered. This was without a rectifier, using a 130 watt stator. Surprising that the led light worked on ac at all.
