During the whole warranty process, I was contacted by the Acerbis rep./importer(?) He told me that this was NOT a common problem for this particular model - just an anomaly (Although TNC may beg to differ ). The metal inserts are put in place, and the plastic is molded around them - they are fully encapsulated in plastic, there is no metal exposed to gas. The problem, he explained, was due to the plastic being too thin around the inserts and the gas finding its way through tiny air bubbles - just happens sometimes during the molding process. FWIW, I wouldn't be concerned about re-purchasing the tank if I had it all to do over again. From what I can gather, it seems like it is only TNC and myself that have had the issue with this particular tank. I think the Acerbis is a much better option that the Clarke tank (at least for what we use it for), and heck! it was only half the price of the Safari tank I bought for my WR250r.

Jordan, I don't recall saying this was common, just that it happened and what it was...and how to fix it.

TNC,

I didn't mean it that way. I just wanted to point out that even though Acerbis said it was an anomaly, it has happened before. I appreciate your input, and had Acerbis not warranted the tank, then I certainly would have gone the neoprene washer method .
