Leaf River DS ride report
This ride was originally scheduled for Nov 1st but wet weather forced a postponement until last Sunday, Nov 15th ( A perfect birthday present for me ) When they first said Nov 15th I was sure we would be riding in snow and riding over the rivers instead of through them. It turned out to actually be a nice day for a ride like this. Little chilly in the morning at 39 degrees though. The club had originally limited the route to one 27 mile loop, but later decide to allow a second lap for an additional $5 as in years past. Riders meeting over, first bike out at 9:30, if your doing 2 loops you had to have the first done and leave on the second by noon. MUCH tougher course this year, challenging, but fuuuuun.
Ready to get it dirty (er)
I have no idea how this guy did it on this 950 Adventure. He did take the panniers off but, I still can't imagine that big bike on the route we took. Hi Matt.
Still corn in some fields.
I couldn't count the number of logs/ trees we went over. Some of them were big enough to bottom out the bike.
If you werent going over them you were going through them, rubbing bark off with your barkbusters.
Tight trail in many places. What trail?
oh there it is
You might recognize this bridge from my report last year. It's in worse shape this year, fun stuff.

He was OK I heard.

Quite a few trees to duck under too. I bonked my helmet more than once.
Even the local beavers were trying to make the trail more challenging.
Fun trail
Doesn't look bad, but stuff like this could take your front end right out from under you.
Riding between big trees .......
Riding between little trees.

Don't miss your turn, or you might end up in the river.
Oh well, didn't matter, your going in the river anyway.
Coming out of the first river crossing you could pick from 3 lines. You couldn't change your mind once you picked one though .
Shortly after the first crossing was a second.
There were even more lines to pick from when exiting the second river crossing. I still picked the wrong one.
I couldn't believe the suction the mud had on that rear tire, and my boots for that matter. I finally wrestled it back into the river, and hit another line to get out, all while my new friend took pictures from the other side of the river, where he waited for me to get out of his way.
The hole,
Rode hard put away wet..........and muddy.
Time for swag.......
Big thank you to the Forest City Riders club. http://www.forestcityriders.com/ Glad they hung on after the wet weather and squeezed the event in. Great trail, and a well run event !!!
