Larger fuel tank?

RE: Larger fuel tank?
I can't wait , went riding with some 600's with 5 gallon tanks. I was riding home on fumes and this is after refueling once. 1.9 gallons on a dual sport, what were they thinking. Iam definetely in line for thisnew tank. I would be happy with any amount of increase of fuel capacity.

I emailed Clarke yesterday and they said they are still planning on having a larger tank for us this Spring. They saidit should fit withno modifications. I'm holding out until they put their's on the market before I buy one.

I sent an e-mail yesterday as well, and asked them about what they though the price would be, as well as what kind of arrangements could be made for a group discount for forum members:

I am not holding my breath so I have gone ahead and picked up a KLX300 tank. It's only 2.6 gallons but that should get me just over the 100 mile mark before reserve. I will go with that until clarke shows us thier offering.
Has anyone else here installed the KLX300 tank on the KLX250S?If so what mods did you have to do to get it to fit? Oh yea;I did order the KLX300 shrouds and petcock. Thanks ahead for any info.

Here is the pictures but there is one thing that you minght need to get. under the seat on my bike there is a strap that hooks to the tank so that it is more sucure. i so not know you migh have gotten that but you may not. it is shoen in one of the pictures. The first step is to take of the tank and radiator shrouds. The next step is to put the tank in between the frame with the petcock on the tank.If you look on the side of your fram rails you will see two mounting holes for some screws as seen in the picture below. this is where the bolts will mount on the tank.

Next this is the part that iwas talking about. it is a ruber strap that holds that rear end of the tank down. It is easy as pulling and sucuring.
Then you just put the radiator shrouds on and you should be done. Then when you buy the other tank you just repeat the steps to take the tank and shrouds off. GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for theinfo and photos inthe next post. That strap is going to be on order from my local dealer tomorrow. Does your dads KLX250S have the KLX300 tank? I am curious about the radiator fans and coil placement and also of any tabs or anything that might need to be removed to get that 300 tank in there.

RE: Larger fuel tank?
Well lets see i think that you will be ok the bottom of the tank should be able to fit right onto the wires ontop of the head. no my dad does not have the 300 tank on he has the accerbis tank on his and he did not have to take the fan off of the bike. and the 300 tank is basically the accerbis tank just doesnt have gasoline in the fenders. so you should be set to go once you have that rubber strip. ad about the cuttin there is no cuttin invloved. tha shape is just like the accerbis tank. so i hope that works for you post some pics when you finish. GOOD LUCK!

edit: as an afterthought im also hoping that they maintain the current looks and lines of the plastics.. i know it may be a bit much to ask (space is somewhat limited for this) , but i think i can live with a good looking bike with a small(er) gas tank over an ugly one with a bigger tank.
