Im interested, but SW Colorado?

Tune me in

SW Colorado? that is in the lower left corner of the state of Colorado. We are on the western slope of the continental divide. "Tune me in"; I'm not sure I understand.

I would be interested if it didn't mean a fan change or the ugly thick wings, (sorry Marty and Tony) I just want a bigger tank that allows us to keep our stock shrouds and not have to do anything to modify the bike. Is that asking too much?[&:] If that is a possibility then count me in, but for that much money it better be at least 3 gal, and maybe 3.5.

I think it might be asking too much. The acerbis gets most of its capacity from the wings that you don't like, and the IMS is 3.2 gallons but it fills up nearly all the space above the engine right up to the radiators and even goes a bit higher on top than the stock tank. So you can either have the shrouds become an integral part of the tank to get the volume, or you're going to have to give up the giant radiator fan. If Clark makes a tank, maybe they can manage to keep the stock radiator fan and give up a little volume, but certainly the cables are doing to need to be rerouted.

Either that, or figure out something completely different like mounting an auxiliary tank somewhere else on the bike and routing the fuel like down to the petcock. Perhaps the left side number plate can be replaced by a similarly shaped gas tank only give it some thickness so it has some volume to carry fuel - it would stick out a bit more, but you could probably fit a gallon back there if you got creative.

Not to mention having all of the mounting holes line-up. I believe the guys that are running the IMS tank built for KLX300 are not running them with all of the mounting bolts in. The guys with the Acerbis have to deal with trapped fuel in the wings...no thanks. I want a tank that uses most all of its fuel and without the cascade of mods necessary for installation of the IMS.

IchWarriorMkII,
I am in Pagosa Springs, CO. One of the rides that I have on my "TO DO " list is in your neck of the woods... From Silverton,CO to Lake City back to Telluride (The Alpine Loop). This type of ride is exactly why the KLX250S needs to have a decent range. Yea, the saddle maybe needs some work, I can deal with sore butt...But I would like to be able to ride with confidence/assurance that I will make it back to civilization.

Matt

I send them an e-mail and included a link to this thread as well as one of the USC skidplate threads ... just to give them a sense of how enthusiastic we are, and to show how it was a Win-Win situation for both "forumites" and USC.
