I would totally go with the IMS, except I just can't part with my stock fan and put those hack looking computer fans on there.
No offense, but even if they are water proof, they look like computer fans, and just don't look up to the task.

mhammer, I've run my tank dry on more than one occassion (not on purpose either).
That's what I hate about it - it looks like I've got a ton of gas and - oh - now I'm out of gas.
I've measured the gas required to fill it back up after running dry - it was about 10.5 litres (2.8 gallons).
And I measured the very first fill - 14 litres. that's damn near 1 gallon that won't come out.

Rocking and tilting the bike will get you another half mile, then it will start sputtering again.
It's just not feasible to rock and tilt - it only gets a splash of gas up into the petcock area.

 

Well I have officially decided that I don't want to change the tank unless they come out with something that has at least 3.5 gallons and looks good. So far I haven't' seen anything out there.Sorry for the guys that have the Acerbis tank, but that thing does not compliment the bike. Thick wings?....No thanks. So for me its easier to take a couple of 2 litre coke or Pepsi bottles( didn't want to start a pop war) with me in a back pack for long off road trips. After they are emptied into the tank you can either bury them under a root wad (not recommended), or leave them in the pack, after all they will provide great protection if you are launched off the bike and land on your back.

 

I dunno, to me an extra gallon of gas is pretty good imo. I cant wait to see the new clarke tank.

 

I'll take the extra gallon. 150 miles in the woods is a long way. I will still pack my 33oz containers though.

I'm sure you were kidding Deej, but pop bottles are not a good idea for a plethora of reasons.

 

Actually I have read over on thumper talk that a lot of guys are doing that very thing, then ditching the bottles. I do have a couple of the 22 oz and one 33 oz gas bottle, but really to date I haven't had to use them, but I never regret taking them along. You never know.

 

I havetwo MSR 650 ml fuel bottles for camping stoves (its the middle sized one). They're designed for backpacking and rough handling, so I'm pretty sure I don't need a Nomex riding jersey. They fit in the Pelican case, which offers added protection, and at $12 each, I'm not likely to ditch them in the woods! . Thery're a bit of a pain when filling at the gas station, but not as much of a pain as running out of gas in the middle of the woods! [:@]

 

Man I sure hope you're joking. Maybe I'm just a little humor impared today but carrying a few quarts of gasoline in an ultra-cheap container on your back has got to be one of the stupidest things I've heard suggested on this forum.
